Set beside a beautiful 24 acre lake in 1400 acres of rolling Yorkshire Dales countryside, if you’re looking for a spa escape in a spectacular setting where you can take in the fresh air from the moment you wake up in the morning – you’ve found it at The Coniston Spa…

First impressions

10 minutes from the village of Bell Busk and Coniston Cold, The Coniston Spa is rich in indoor luxury and outdoor activity. The location lends itself to an idyllic escape.

The hotel

A luxurious hotel run by the Bannister family for over five decades and once a farm shop, the hotel has 71 luxurious rooms and also offers accommodation in idyllic holiday cottages (one including a hot tub), which are ideal for visiting groups of friends or families.

The spa

The spa is home to a multi million pound, state of the art spa which includes a 15-metre indoor swimming pool, a Himalayan salt sauna, an aromatherapy steam room, an indoor bubble pool, a Finnish sauna, an outdoor infinity edge spa pool, and an ice fountain as well as an array of studio classes.

The restaurant

The hotel has three key restaurants making use of local produce. Macleod’s is a traditional but elegant restaurant offering a mouth-watering à la carte menu of locally sourced produce, while the Huntsman’s Lodge offers magnificent views of the lake and the surrounding countryside at breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. The spa also has its own brasserie offering healthy food and drink options to enhance your spa escape.

The location

For anyone who has ever spent time in Yorkshire, you will know that the magical landscape beckons visitors to spend time outside. At The Coniston Spa, that is made all the more tantalising by the array of activities available, ranging from off-road driving to clay pigeon shooting, archery, fishing and falconry. The proximity to the village nearby also means guests can head off for a leisurely wander on their break.

The verdict

An escape for all guests courtesy of the array of accommodation options, groups of friends are welcomed at The Coniston Spa for an elegant and relaxed gathering perhaps suited to a low key celebration or hen party. Alternatively, the beauty and charm of the hotel makes it an ideal escape for couples or mothers and daughters looking for a retreat with its combination of awe-inspiring surroundings and contemporary design.
