With the grandeur of a historic mansion, but contemporary details that make this Cork hotel a contemporary gem, The Montenotte is brimming with stylish details that make it both intriguing and a pleasure to simply be here. Far from a place to just lay your head, its rooms and apartment accommodation are elegant and modern with vibrant splashes of colour that inform the character of the hotel and its vibe. Meanwhile, its views of the city really add a little something extra to the experience whether you’re taking in the river Lee over your morning coffee or looking at the sparkling lights on the horizon at night with a glass of champagne in hand.
There are several dining options at the hotel, again with beautiful views of the city – who needs artwork when you have a river and a city skyline to set the tone? There is a touch of art deco style in the sumptuous fabrics that are chosen, alongside the rich colours – for example, the deep green velvet chairs alongside dove grey walls. The aptly named Panorama Bistro and terrace is a real favourite at any meal and the bits in between, while afternoon tea offers something super chic but with classic good taste. It is classically romantic, but if you fancied visiting for cocktails with friends, it would be perfect for that too!
The leisure facilities and the spa are slightly separate from one another, which fits with the fact that for all its stylishness, this is a family friendly venue. There is a gym, a 20-metre pool, a sauna and steam room. However, in The Bellevue Spa, the award winning and brand new space (opened in 2018) is really an adult haven. It is all about the treatments here, complete with therapy rooms, a nail bar and a hair salon, and as a gorgeous extra touch, they have their own product line, Bellevue Botanicals. The line is inspired by one of the hotel’s most unique features, the sunken Victorian garden.
On the subject of the garden, the location of The Montenotte Hotel is a wonderful juxtaposition of this historic and ornamental garden alongside the city. The hotel is sheltered, surrounded as it is and cushioned from the outside world by these exquisite ornamental grounds, combined with Ireland’s only Hotel Sunken Victorian Garden. However, it also overlooks the city of Cork with the River Lee in its midst.
As a result of its unique location, its stylishness and its welcoming atmosphere, the wonderful thing about The Montenotte, is that it really is a wonderful mix of vibes that makes it an amazing spot for either a romantic weekend or a girly escape with friends.
