Sunscreen that’s inspired by spa and sea to really take care of your skin

It might only be May but the sun has already been teasing us with a spectacular Easter holiday and some exceptional spring days since.  It’s too early to tell if we’re heading for another cracker like last year, but however strong the sun ends up being, it’s never too early to think about sunscreen, especially as this week is Sun Awareness Week.

The new world of sun cream

While childhood memories of being slathered in a thick white gloopy paste for sunscreen might be nostalgic, it seems a little unfair to have to choose between clogged pores and sunburn when it comes to summer holidays.

Not only that, but by now we’re all up to speed and understand that actually we should be wearing an SPF every day not just when we plan to laze on a lounger. White gloopy paste is definitely not the order of the day for a city commute and a day at your desk.

Fortunately, the world of beauty and sun cream has progressed and there are some exceptional sun block products on the market that have that summer vibe but don’t have the same pore clogging sheen to go with them. Chief amongst them are products from Thalgo.

When the sun shines, most of us think of beach holidays and running around on the sand.  So it’s fitting that Thalgo is a marine-based beauty brand drawing its healing properties from the ocean.  A French spa brand with more than 50 years’ experience, Thalgo has earned a reputation for its professional excellence and its ability to harness the wellbeing powers of the sea.

What you need to know about Thalgo

Seeing a mirror reflection between the earth and the human body, Thalgo takes inspiration from the sea. After all, oceans cover 70% of the earth’s surface, just like 70% of the human body consists of water. They note that ‘at the beginning of the last century, the biologist Quinton was the first to highlight the similarity between the composition of seawater and our internal fluids.’

Thalgo itself was founded by André Bouclet, a Doctor of Pharmacy, who built on Quinton’s ideas. He created Thalgo in 1964, the first Marine Cosmetology laboratory, focusing on the benefits of algae and thalassotherapy. He found that algae have an extraordinary concentration of the minerals and trace elements essential for our skin’s balance, and so it forms a foundation for the Thalgo products.

Thalgo says: “One of the major challenges of cosmetics research is obtaining the best possible penetration of active ingredients into skin and their perfect assimilation by the cells to guarantee an effective beauty result. This is the great strength of marine cosmetic active ingredients.”
