Read full postYou’ve heard of a mini-break, now it’s all about the microgap. A chance to restore some work-life balance or fulfil a sudden urge to escape the city for a couple of days, a microgap can do wonders for mind, body and soul.
For those of us who’ve used up most of our holiday on going to friends’ weddings or simply are not in a position to take lots of time off work, the microgap is for you. Not only that, but as it’s the short equivalent of a staycation, you won’t even have to worry about taking your passport or limiting your liquids to a small plastic bag of 50ml bottles.
So what’s the key to a great microgap? It’s all about beautiful experiences. Sleep under the stars or soak in a hot tub with mountain views. Here are a few suggestions for the perfect microgap…
We’re not even sure how to begin describing the location at Aghadoe Heights. Looking out onto Lough Leane and Killarney mountains, it is an enchanting environment that’s impossible not to fall in love with. From the award-winning spa to the restaurant, these views are some kind of magical wallpaper for your experience and literally set the scene for a romantic break.
Chewton Glen is known as one of the most luxurious spa hotels in the UK. Offering everything from award-winning dining to exceptional spa facilities and a beautiful location, you can stay in one of their Treehouse Suites. Go to sleep close to the stars and wake in the morning to see deer roaming below in the morning mist.
Thermae Bath Spa is well known as one of the most unique and original spa experiences in the UK. What makes Thermae Bath Spa different is that it’s the only day spa in Britain that that’s actually fed by natural thermal waters. Its central location really comes into its own when you’re bathing in the rooftop pool in the day or in the evening when the lights are on. Every time you see that city skyline and the surrounding hills beyond, it makes you realise how special it is.
Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa has an international reputation for excellence. The hotel and spa are superb both as a collective experience, and in their own right. Very much a destination that’s associated with luxury, everything has been given the five star treatment. Rooms and suites are individually decorated, the main restaurant has a Michelin star, and the spa has all the facilities you could ask for, including their own product line for treatments as well as Natura Bissé, who have treatments that feature crushed diamonds and rose essence. It’s also home to a Natura Bissé ‘bubble’, one of only 24 in the world, which means the treatments are carried out in an environment where 99.995% of the air breathed is purified and free of polluting particles.

Read full postHaving worked in the spa world for many years now, I don't think I will ever fail to be surprised by just how impactful a spa treatment can be on your wellbeing. Different therapies have different benefits, of course, but one thing that's abundantly clear, is that whatever treatment you choose, it's more than skin deep.
