Made for Life Organics has made a name for itself as an organic spa skincare line with treatments and products that are safe to use when being treated for cancer. Made in Cornwall, their standards for the use of natural ingredients and being environmentally friendly are exceptional. Beautiful experiences to have at a spa, they are also superb to use at home as well. For one, it can be very difficult to find high quality skincare products that come in entirely recyclable packaging. Here’s what you need to know and why we love it so much…
Originally developed from an orthodox medical background, the organic spa skincare products have been created by combining dermatological science with botanicals. Since the start, the formulations have evolved with dermatological research, but are always created using organic herbs and flowers.
Every product is made by hand in Cornwall using herbs, flowers and oils from as nearby as quality will allow. They track the provenance of each ingredient and do not add any synthetic chemicals.
They are acutely aware that as the skin being the largest organ of the body, up to 2kg of chemicals can be absorbed through it each year from toiletries and skin care products alone. This drives their commitment to deliver natural products which are not tested on animals. For example, they process balms and oils using a unique method of capturing solar and lunar energy during a targeted ‘maceration’. That’s what makes each product so intense.
There aren’t actually any legal standards in place to define what it is to be a truly organic skin care product. As it stands, as long as you have even just 1.75% of organic ingredients in your product, you can call it organic. So it’s important to read the ingredients. In 1999 Made for Life Organics was the first UK company to achieve 100% organic certification across the entire collection from the Soil Association, and worked closely with them to help define accreditation for beauty products.
To them, organic means that products are free from toxins and don’t include parabens, formaldehyde, petroleum waxes, sodium lauryl sulphate and microbeads. They’re not just good for us, they’re good for the environment. As you may know, thousands of harmful toxic chemicals and microbeads make their way daily into sewage systems that are not set up to deal with them. The result is that they end up in the sea and water systems. So Made for Life Organics don’t use any of them at all.
They approach being organic as being sustainable for the environment and our bodies. It restricts the use of artificial chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Organic farms where their ingredients are grown also provide havens for wildlife like bees, birds and butterflies. It’s not just about what they do, but they’re really stringent about checking out the suppliers of their ingredients as well. For example, they insist no supplier must have been involved in animal testing and they will not accept any genetically modified ingredients.
As a result, they were awarded Leaping Bunny certification, the most trusted cruelty free certification for non-animal tested products.
When you order products online you can choose their Eco-Packaging option at the checkout. This means no product carton is used or its associated accessory. An automatic donation is also made to the Made for Life Foundation.
