How do you do a spa body scrub?

Part of Spa At Home Guide

Body scrub at home

A body scrub can be a really wonderful way to make you feel rejuvenated and refreshed. It can be as simple as using a body brush, as mentioned in our spa rituals section, or you can take your time to use a scrub either from products or made at home for extra skin boosting qualities and relaxation benefits.

Your skin is really quite incredible, it performs a number of functions in the body including acting as a visual sign of health and a bit of an indicator of what’s going on inside. It is our biggest organ of elimination, and while the best way to detox is to work from the inside out, supporting the body through diet, hydration and a generally healthy lifestyle, stimulating the skin itself through saunas, steam rooms, wraps and spa treatments provides a welcome stimulus and support for detox and ultimately feeling your best.

  1. You can buy ready made body scrubs or mix high quality salts and base oils. Himalayan salts are often used, invigorating and refreshing the skin, to remove dry and dead skin cells and bring fresh new skin to the surface. The exfoliation process also helps remove impurities and toxins from the skin.

  2. Helpful additions to body scrubs include essential oils, for example, famed Irish skincare brand VOYA uses a blend of organic botanical herbs and seaweed extracts to soothe and nourish new skin as part of their body scrubs. However, always make sure you mix essential oils with base oils and follow instructions carefully before applying to the skin.

  3. Concentrate on a select part of the body or use from top to toe (use different, purpose made products for face), and then rinse in the shower with your preferred cleansing product.

  4. After cleansing, apply a nourishing body cream or oil and take time to massage it in, because you deserve it and this is all about quality time.
