One of the real beauties of a spa day at home is that you can make it exactly how you want. You can make it a full day or put aside an hour that’s just for you; you can invest in spa skincare products or you can work with what you’ve got. Or add a couple of little inexpensive extras to make the day special. You might even choose to make some of your spa ingredients yourself using ingredients from your fridge! Crucially, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to spoil yourself, and you don’t need lots of time. The experience will benefit from a little planning however.
Firstly, set the scene and make sure you feel comfortable. For this, a little planning goes a long way. Here are a few essentials that we think help to create that sense of spa relaxation at home:
- Scented candles
- Relaxing music
- A favourite book or magazine
- Robe and slippers or something comfortable to wear
The space that you choose to spend time in is also important. Hopefully your home is an environment that already represents relaxation and happiness for you, but if you share it with other people, maybe including children, it might not always be entirely peaceful. Decide on a room where you can spend a little time uninterrupted by yourself or with a friend or partner. Make sure it’s clean and tidy before you start your home spa day, as that will help you feel relaxed. Set aside your robe and slippers, or whatever you feel warm and comfortable in, so that they’re ready for when you need them.
Then decide what kind of treatment you want to have. Whether it’s a facial, a manicure, a pedicure, a hair mask, or perhaps you have a friend or partner who is a willing masseuse, think about how you want to pamper yourself at home, and make sure you have what you need. We have put a few ideas below, but there’s some exceptional home spa products available from brands including Elemis, Rituals, Aromatherapy Associates, ESPA, Decleor, Comfort Zone, Elemental Herbology, Made for Life Organics, and many other well known as well as boutique spa lines. You can even take inspiration from your favourite spas listed on Spabreaks.com, and see which product lines they use. Some spas even produce their own product lines which are also available to buy.See your favourite spas
