I booked Chilworth Manor for an overnight spa break with my husband for our 1st year wedding anniversary. The hotel is located in a gorgeous setting and was easy to get to by car. First impressions of the hotel was that it looked beautiful and so did the surrounding grounds. The staff at the reception were friendly and welcoming and our room was lovely.
The room itself has a lovely large and very comfortable bed, flat screen TV on the wall, tea and coffee making facilities, beautiful large windows with a deep set window ledge and a clean, modern bathroom with complimentary wash items. We arrived to a lovely little 'Happy Anniversary' card from the hotel which was also a lovely touch.
The hotel bar looks beautiful but the staff looked as if they weren't quite sure on what they were doing. It wasn't particuarly busy but as the card machine stopped working, one of the barmen basically froze and continued to just serve people who had cash even though most of us who were waiting only had card. this was a little inconvenient but didn't spoil our stay as we luckily had some 'back up' cash in our room.
The restaurant was nice although be it a tad too warm. The weather outside was gorgeous and hot and I don't think they had any fans or aircon in the restaraunt as my husband had sweat dripping from his forehead (we had a chuckle about this).... The food was delicious! Definately could not fault the food at all as we thoroughly enjoyed all 3 of our courses. Our only disappointment was the waiting time between starter and main course (we had to wait over 45 minutes) and as it was so hot in the room we started to get a little restless.
The only other part of our stay which wasn't ideal but out of the hotels control was the fire alarm went off at 4.30AM!! and we were made to evacuate the building. We were lucky in the fact that we were only waiting outside for approximately 30 minutes (as the firemen arrived to check out the building) and that luckily there was no fire. The staff dealing with the situation were very good and very apologetic but it just meant that the long lie in away from the children we were so looking forward to wasn't exactly what we got!
Overall I would ask that they are more conscious on meal waiting times, bar waiting times and that staff improve the speed in which they work at the bar. However I would recommend this hotel to other guests as the hotel and grounds are beautiful, food is delicious, rooms are spacious clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
