The outdoors is a hugely important part of the experience at Camp Ripan, even if it’s just observing it from behind the glass. Combine outdoor experiences with indoor indulgence by going horse riding or dog sledding in the ice fairytale in winter, or hiking and rafting down the Torne River in summer. Then return to the hotel’s leisure facilities and Aurora Spa, which sits at the heart of the hotel.

Taking the local values of nature and community and enshrining them in this peaceful space, natural materials and natural light form the basis of the spa. Observe polar landscapes as you relax in the ‘mountain stream’, outdoor pool, sauna with pine oil, mineral sauna, indoor pools and relaxation areas.

Camp Ripan is in the running for Most Unique Spa Experience for 2020. A favourite feature is their unique Aurora Spa Ritual Stävans, a variety of DIY treatments based on old Swedish, Sami and Torne Valley Finnish medicinal traditions and using natural raw ingredients that are completely free of preservatives. Choose from therapies such as a coffee mask, use a foot salt with lemon and juniper berry, or a birch leaf scrub and their own unique body oil. There are no therapists on site, but if you prefer, more conventional treatments can be booked in advance.

Located in Kiruna, Swedish Lapland, Camp Ripan is a magical icy experience. From mountain landscapes and the Northern Lights to dog sled rides in the snow and Icelandic horse riding, Kiruna is a holiday destination like no other, and Camp Ripan is a contemporary hotel that makes the location sing. Large windows and spacious rooms allow for plenty of natural light and panoramic views of the impressive landscape. That said, a glowing fire in the entrance hall ensures harsh winters are always countered by a warm welcome. Meanwhile, guests can choose to stay in rooms or private cabins. All offer a contemporary Scandinavian style and space for up to four people, making them ideal for groups of friends or families.

The Camp Ripan kitchen is a wonderfully uplifting environment - light and airy and continuing the wonderful views of the great outdoors. Designed to take you on a culinary journey through the pantry of Swedish Lapland, they use locally harvested produce and have a superb wine cellar to complement the flavours. Food is an important part of the experience here, and they have cooking evenings designed to introduce you to regional cooking traditions. These take place in the Andrummet - a secluded space within the hotel grounds, meaning ‘breathing space’ - a local concept inspired by the importance of time and space to gather your thoughts. You can also take part in wine and spirit tasting events exploring whiskey, cognac, armagnac and brandy.
