Looking out across rolling Tuscan hills in one of the most scenic spots of the Maremma, Castel Porrona Relais & Spa is set in the historic and sparsely populated village of Porrona, built in the 12th century and bought in 1894 by French nobleman Pietro Emilio Targes de Rochefort.
The history of the hotel, it’s background having been owned by the most prominent of Italian noble families for more than 500 years, the scenic location and the extraordinarily high standards of style and hospitality that they prioritise make for a wonderfully romantic holiday destination in the heart of Italy.
A scenic and romantic escape, the hotel’s spa is an Arabic sphere housing heated indoor pool salt water, two whirlpools, a sauna, steam bath, sensory showers and a relaxation area while outside there is a large swimming pool. Amongst the favourite therapies are the wine therapy treatments and massage outside in the gazebo.
A short drive from the hotel and you will find places of historical and cultural interest such as Siena, Florence, Montalcino, and the well-known sea resorts of Punta Ala and Castiglione della Pescaia all of which offer local high quality food. Additional local attractions include a wide variety of cellars and vineyards in Montalcino as well as Brunello and olive oil vineyard also in Montalcino, Italy.
Spa & Leisure
The Agua SPA takes on an Arabic atmosphere, taking guests on a journey through Moroccan fabrics and jewel tones through 800 square metres of relaxation. Facilities include a large heated indoor pool salt water, two whirlpools, a sauna, steam bath, sensory showers and a relaxation area while outside there is a large swimming pool with hydromassage areas where you can relax with a view of the gentle Tuscan hills.
When it comes to treatments there are four cabins, one for couples and wine therapy treatments, and the others offering face and body therapies. In addition, the gazebo in the garden is dedicated to outdoor yoga classes or en plein air massages. On summer afternoons, the bar serves healthy food and drink using organic products as well as offering aperitifs at sunset.
Hotel & Accommodation
In a 12th century village which belonged to two of the largest noble families in Italy for five centuries, Castel Porrona Relais & Spa sits in a beautiful and sparsely populated village. Restored to perfection, it is the ideal fusion of medieval spirit and grandeur alongside contemporary hospitality, accommodation is available across 25 rooms and suites as well as beautifully designed apartments. Throughout, the rich heritage interiors make for a decadent and romantic stay, while ostentatious apartments are ideal for group or family holidays.
The Cloister is the hotel’s restaurant, an elaborate affair using local products alongside a regional wine list, seasonally renewed and offering guests authentic flavours, traditional Tuscan and Italian dishes revisited in modern style overlooking the picturesque cloister and the well of the village.
Board basis: all packages are on a bed and breakfast basis although it is not a buffet breakfast. Guests receive a welcome gift upon arrival and have free access to the Agua SPA including use of the indoor pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, calidarium, outdoor heated and saltwater pool and the gym.
