Sandwiched between Gloucester and Cheltenham, The Cheltenham Chase Hotel is a four star venue in the heart of one of the UK’s most beautiful counties. With 122 rooms some of which with views of the Cotswold, it is easily accessible from the M5 while still enjoying a high degree of apparent seclusion.
Hardy’s restaurant is a contemporary dining area, with minimalist design and uncluttered décor throughout. The menu gives a nod to the area’s traditional cuisine with ingredients sourced from local farms, all of which can be enjoyed with a view of Coopers Hill.
Changing rooms dirty and not checked regularly.
Pool area dirty and broken chair which friend hurt herself.
Broken swim costume drier.
Painter in corridor.
Water fountain outside of pool area.
Treatments were disrupted by lots of noise coming from the gym area ( Not sound proof rooms)
Treatments were different to what we ordered ( need to change on your system) we all had to decide on the spot what we wanted. Foot treatment was given in same room as massage and done led down !!.
Spa has gone down from last time we were there .
Good points are ALL the staff are lovely and helpful.
I have photos of these as evidence if you would like me to send over .
This is a great package - all the staff at the Hotel were wonderful and the meal on arrival was delicious. The Spa is a little small, but has everything you need, and if quite it's a great relaxation space. Our treatments were fabulous, perfectly relaxing and again the team were great! Thanks so much!!
The treatment itself was lovely but the pool, sauna and steam room area is lacking seating areas and was very busy. Sauna and steam room is quite small.
A pleasant relaxing day. We were a little late arriving due to travel problems but I let the spa know and they were really accommodating and friendly. We were able to use all of the facilities even though it was quite busy. The food was nicely presented, tasty and even though it was described as a light lunch it was easily sufficient. My only frustratiin was that the hairdryers weren't working.
Lovely place for a spa day only issue we had was the jacuzzi was out of order.
Treatments were lovely in fact best massage I’ve had.
Will be returning.
I had a shoulder neck and head massage, and a facial. Can't fault the service. So relaxing I was starting to drift off. Felt very refreshed and relaxed after. The therapist was really nice and she explained what products she was going to use and why. My friends both had facials and pedicures. There didn't appear to be a massive amount of nail polish colour choices, but they were both really happy with their treatments.
Had back massage and facial which were excellent. However didn’t mark everything full five stars as not given opportunity to have treatment in separate room which meant it wasn’t as peaceful an experience as it could have been. Some people might prefer this - and I was only sharing with someone I knew- but I would have preferred a single treatment room.
Good facilities in the pool area. I love a hot tub to be nice and warm but it was slightly too warm even for me. The treatment was lovely, although I went with two friends and two of us were put in a double room. It didn’t bother us but it might have been nice to have been asked at the time of booking if this was ok.
Spa day for a group of 8 went really smoothly. The staff at the Spa and leisure facilities were excellent and accommodating. The lunch for vegan diet was disappointing. The facilities were clean and the decor was pretty. Treatments were professional and excellent quality. A day enjoyed by everyone.
I had a therapist called Natalie, who was amazing! Her treatments made my weekend! I had the best back and neck massage I have ever had. It was amazing! Still feeling the benefits!
Brilliant mid-range spa day. Facilities are reasonable, however not huge and can get busy with hotel guests, however earlier in the day appeared better. The light lunch was good and treatments lovely, all for a valid price. Would go again!
The spa facilities themselves were good but could do with a bit of improvement. The sauna and steam room were good, and the pool was nice and quite quiet when we were there, but the jacuzzi only came on once every 5-10 minutes and wasn’t very strong. We had 60 minute treatments which were lovely.
Way too hot in the swimming pool area and felt a bit gross sitting on wet cushions that were on the sofas. Spa reception staff really great as were therapists.
We had a great day. First time for a spa day but staff were helpful guided us through and they were flexible as we needed lunch earlier... The pool was lovely and warm with some space to sit around the pool. The changing rooms were adequate, clean but not spacious. Gardens were very pleasant with options for sun and shade. We would visit again.
The jacuzzi was extremely hot and dirty - very disappointed with treatments - 2 ladies had an enjoyable massage the other 2 felt the massage was disappointing - (the 2 who were disappointed had the same theaoist)
I had an exfoliation massage which was amazing. My masseuse was friendly and chatty and when I asked for a firm massage I got one. I felt much better afterwards.
Treatments were on time but did not last for the full sixty minutes for all of our guests in our party some only had forty minutes when I questioned this I was told it’s varable for each guest my problem is don’t advitise 60 minute treatments if that’s not what you get the staff were very friendly and did recommend I give feed back to the hotel
I took my two daughters for a well earned break as both are currently studying. Treatments and staff were excellent. Food was on the small size however it was only billed as a light lunch. Pool area was busy with baby swim lessons when we arrived and this was off putting. Pool area was too wet and one of my daughters slipped even though she was being mindful when walking around the outside of the pool. All in all a really enjoyable day, I have been before and will probably return.
I feel we should of been made aware of the large booking in the spa facilities. It was so busy in the pool area we couldnt swim or use juccuz/ sauna etc. It was so noisy we couldn’t sit and talk. Unfortunately only spent 20 minutes in there and had to leave.
Great facilities, lovely treatment, friendly staff. Be aware pool is used at times by classes but this didnt affect our visit. Perfect light lunch, only thing I would have liked added was a cup of tea!
We were on a Spa weekend and had a fabulous time. The Spa staff were all excellent, particularly Steph. There is a relaxation room where you can chill either to prepare for your treatments or afterwards to continue in "the zone"! We were a party of four and every one of us had wonderful treatments. Highly recommendable!
My friend and I enjoyed using the pool and the treatments were enjoyable. I did ask for separate treatment rooms when I booked but this didn't materialise. However it wasn't a problem The spa staff were friendly and helpful
Staff very friendly and helpful. Pool area too hot. Good treatments but did not give the whole hour as supposed to.
Food sightly disappointing and had to wait ages for it.
The therapist gave an ok facial plus foot and leg scrub, though it would have been nice to have had the back of my legs scrubbed/massaged, not just the fronts
Treatments were lovely and food was nice just not a lot of choice. Shame there was children’s swimming lessons going on in the pool which we hadn’t been warned about.
Light lunch was plenty! And delicious! One of the spa therapists had a strong accent and spoke quite quickly so we struggled to understand her but I’m a spa pro so got the gist! Treatments were good. Steam room a tad small. Pool nice! Jacuzzi lovely! All in all a very good experience!
Unfortunately the spa let the trip down. They ran out of spa slippers so everyone was walking around bare foot. Upon arriving in our joint treatment room, which we weren't asked if this was OK (it made our treatments less relaxing) we were informed that our treatments weren't 60 and 30 mins they were 50 and 25;and they cut them even shorter than this. There was no consultation from the therapists before starting, despite our both ticking issue boxes on the initial form that we completed at reception.
Some of us had to share a room for beauty treatments which was particularly awkward as not everyone knew each other and also took away from the relaxing vibe a treatment is supposed to give. There were no loungers around the pool ( no room for them) which also reduced the 'spa' experience. Overall, there were 14 of us so we had a good time but if I'd gone in a small group I would have very disappointed. Lunch was very odd, straight out the 1980s but dinner and breakfast were very good.
We had a lovely relaxing day. The treatment was excellent the lunch had everything you could want. Made better with a two night stay in the hotel! We will return.
I booked a spa break as a treat for me and two friends. Our first impressions of the hotel were positive when we drove up, and also upon entering the hotel. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The hotel looked very modern and well maintained. Our room had 3 single beds and was a nice size. The bathroom was clean and functional. We went for a dip in the pool and Jacuzzi before our treatments. Was expecting the pool to be bigger and warmer than it was. Also the benches around the pool had wet cushions, which is to be expected, however where water had soaked through to the chair frame, rust patches stained the cushions which didn't look nice. We had a lovely dinner and breakfast. Really good choice of food available. I would recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay here again.
I booked this hotel as an overnight spa break for four of us. I was particularly impressed with the quality of the staff. Everyone without exception was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The environment was inviting and comfortable. The food, particularly the light lunch, was excellent. The whole break was really good value for money. In Case you think I don’t know how to be critical, the spa treatment was excellent but two of us were treated simultaneously in the same room. I think that many people would prefer not to share and should alway be given the option. However, I would return and would recommend to others
We booked a triple room and were really pleased that there were 3 'real' beds and not two beds plus a fold-out bed! The staff were all really friendly and helpful.
The hotel was in the middle of having renovation works in the foyer, bar and restaurant areas. Once finished, it will be lovely but it’s just a shame we weren’t advised the works were going on. For a hotel of this size I would expect to be able to buy sanitary products in the toilets, fortunately a member of staff helped me out from her own personal supply! The food in the bar/restaurant was lovely but there seemed to be a lot of staff not giving much service, it’s as if they were all new to the job. My experience however wouldn’t prevent me from returning, a few small tweaks would make a huge improvement to the overall experience.
We stayed for a two night spa break and it was not worth the money.
Dinner was the worst I think we have ever had. £28 was a good allocation and allowed you to have a three course meal, however the food was awful, like a bad microwave meal. We of course complained and the excuse given was we are changing from Q Hotels to Marriott.
The bar area was covered in flies, I think fruit flies. They were lots just in the ceiling waiting. We asked about it and were told the knew but didn’t know what to do about it.
There was confusion over spa times.
Spa area dirty, customs stained, had to ask for steam room to be turned on, only 4 relaxation beds in spa.
Awful and would not stay again. We are so unhappy.
Treatments were great, rooms were nice and our evening meal was delicious. Now for the big minus Worst hotel breakfast ever!! with just the worst service. We arrived down to breakfast at 9am and nearly all of the food had been left to run out even though there was half an hour still to go. Staff should have been restocking as they went!! We had to wait for bacon whilst the rest of our breakfast got cold and then it came out under cooked! It definitely wasn’t worth the wait either as the breakfast was very poor quality. The juices all tasted watered down and the anaemic sausages were covered in congealed fat. Mushrooms came out of the kitchen supposedly freshly cooked and were stone cold! We had to get our own cups, spoons - the list goes on. Overall excellent value spa break but the breakfast needs serious improvement as this really let our visit down.
The spa experience was great overall. The hotel staff were friendly and the room comfortable. The food in the restaurant was really good. I asked a couple of questions on the menu which the waiter didn’t know the answer to but overall I would recommend the hotel experience.
Very uncomfortable bed and pillows which undid all the good of the massage we had had. That was very nice. Spa reception staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant staff also very helpful and friendly. Re epitome staff lovely so only negative was the bed.
Really pleased with our stay. We struggled to find a spa day for 3 people so it was perfect that this hotel offered this. Really good value for money and a lovely stay.
The food in the restaurant was very poor, my girlfriend and I were very disappointed at the lack of enthusiasm from the staff and most of all the quality of food. Steak sandwich was dry, mac and cheese was tasteless, eggs weren’t nice and bread was stale. Very poor
Have stayed here before and enjoyed our stay sadly this time felt it had gone down hill a bit service was not so good in the restaurant both on the evening meal and again at breakfast we had to keep asking for things missing from our order and the quality of the food wasn’t good food came out undercooked and had to be sent back we were also asked to order our main meal in advance when we checked in just after having our lunch which was difficult to choose the menu had also been changed from our last visit I felt we were being rushed as we were a large party of twelve it was difficult to catch everyone at the same time so I felt my afternoon was spent chasing round for a food order when I should have been relaxing
We were, I'm sorry to say, extremely disappointed with our stay. I was very excited about spending a weekend away especially as my friend had said how amazing the hotel was. Once we had booked in and went to our rooms, which were very nice, we went down to the spa where we had 2 spa appointments booked. When we arrived we were not told that we had to be booked in by a certain member of staff and fill forms out, before entering the spa. This meant that when we arrived at the spa reception we were welcomed in and shown to the relaxation room and left there for 45 mins, as time past we asked why our treatments were so late, their reply was we didn't know you were here! Due to a complete lack of communication between the spa reception and the therapists, our 2 treatments were rushed and completed at the same time, to save the therapists time, so that other customers treatments were not late! The therapists were very apologetic and lovely. We did feel sorry for them because it seems that mistakes such as ours were becoming a frequent occurrence. Due to our appointments in the spa being very late, we asked the lady on the spa reception desk if she would be able to move our dinner reservation to an hour later. She agreed and disappeared. On our way out of the spa we saw her again and asked her if she had managed to book our meal an hour later, to which she replied, oh I didn't do it! So she took us to the main reception desk where we changed the time. When we came down for dinner, they couldn't find a reservation or booking for us at all! The next day we came down to breakfast, and stood around for 5 minutes to be seated. The restaurant was practically empty with no staff to be seen. We were eventually met by a grumpy, rude waiter who asked where we wanted to sit, whilst huffing and puffing. When we checked out the receptionist said, do you have a bill to pay or settle? Surely thats their job to know! I wonder how many people have said no and done a runner!
The hotel itself is lovely, rooms are clean and modern, spa small and as expected for what we paid, thou the restaurant was poor, we ordered steaks for our main which we returned twice, the first were cold, second over cooked and third raw!! The manager apologised and refunded our 3 meals, not what we expected! My recommendation is don’t order steak :)
The manager of this hotel makes us feel welcome every time we come here. The food is outstanding. The only thing I would say is there isn’t much room to sit around the pool area. We were on a spa day with treatments in the Sunday but there was no where to sit and say read a book or some thing, if that was made a bit of a bigger area it would be perfect
I wouldn’t class this hotel as a four star. The room we stayed in needed a refurbishment- very dated decor and the walls and door frames were chipped and tierd looking.
The reception staff were friendly although didn’t exactly show us or tell us where anything was.
There was one guy who checked us into the spa who was pleasant and informative but the rest of the staff we didn’t have a great experience with- The waitress we had serving us dinner had terrible customer service skills and then forgot about our drinks and got our food order wrong.
The robes and towels we received looked honestly terrible years and years old, basically falling apart.
The treatment I received in the spa I honestly think was the worst experience I have ever had having a treatment - it felt rushed and extremely unprofessional.
We didn’t receive our light lunch.
I honestly would never stay at this hotel again- it wasn’t worth the money at all.
Arrived at hotel and were upgraded, room was well laid out and comfortable although the staff were friendly there were times we had to wait for attention for drinks at the bar and in the restaurant
The hotel was beautiful but our spa day was awful my mum had her nails and feet done it was awful it was not put on properly all came off I had to redo it again she was so upset Was a waste of money it was supposed to be a surprise Mother’s Day present and because she’s going through her radiotherapy treatment the best was to have nails and feet disappointed And my spa scrub and massage was not that good I had better ☹️
The staff at the hotel were exceptional, particularly Vikrant managing the food and drink side of things and Steph in the Spa. The facilities were excellent and we were looked after by everyone we came across from the time we booked in to the time we left. The spa facilities were great with an excellent pool environment and perfectly good gym. Our rooms were fine with everything we needed. We'll definitely be back!
The evening meal was luck warm and we did tell the waiter this. The bar and reception staff were very helpful and friendly. Lovely comfortable room and variety at breakfast time
When we went to bed one of the single bed was broken. The Reception manager was brilliant but the cleaning staff should have spotted the breakage earlier.
Hotel very clean rooms were bigger than expected .food was lovely .we when a girlie spa break treatment were lovely.
would recommend this hotel and we will be going back
For a spa hotel I would have expected hair conditioner in the bathroom, plus some moisturiser. There was a lot of dirty crockery and glassware which we notified the kitchen of. The food was mediocre and the lunch dessert cream tasted tangy which suggested it was going off.Dinner meal was over cooked. The exception was the dessert with the main meal, which was excellent. People walking around the dining room in their bath robes was a little offputting. Staff were friendly.
Lovely hotel! Steam room a tad cozy! Mattress wasn’t for me, but hubby said it was good so that’s just personal prefereance! Food was excellent! Spa treatments nice. Staff friendly. Only issues was there wasn’t a bottle of wine in the room that was part of our package and when we went for lunch there was no record of our pre-booked lunch booking. But sorted very quickly! Nice bottle of wine from the manager for our 10tr wedding anniversary and upgraded to a VIQ room - super happy! Well done for making our stay so lovely!
The whole break was great value for money, however there weren't enough bar or restaurant staff, resulting in poor service, which absolutely wasn't the staffs fault, there just weren't enough of them.
