Stayed at the MacDonald Spa Hotel on Sunday 11th August 2019, 30th Wedding Anniversary. Very impressive building, initial thoughts "the boys done good". Upon entering the foyer, noted the carpet leading up the steps into the reception area, looked a bit worn and tired. The staff were very helpful and and friendly and showed us to our room. Our room was clean and spacious, but looked tired and in need of an upgrade. The furniture in the room had scuff marks on them and had seen alot of usage, the plinth between the bedroom and bathroom was well worn and needed replacing, the taps, plugs and fittings in the bathroom were worn and tarnished, and the enamel was coming away on the bath.
Was the bed comfy, extremely! There was plenty of tea and coffee making facilities and the room had lots of natural light.
Used the Spa facilities whilst I was there, they were very good, the staff were pleasant and professional.
When we signed out of the hotel on Monday, we were told about the car parking charge £15. I was a little surprised considering what we had paid for one nights stay to include breakfast. I didn't think this charge would apply to guests. I supposed it would apply to day visitors using the Spa Facilities, obviously not.
Bath was fantastic and we can't wait to to return. Sadly we will probably not be staying at the MacDonald Spa hotel when we return.
Would I recommend the MacDonald Spa Bath hotel, yes but with reservations. Don't think it should advertise itself as a 5 star hotel.
