We were put in twin bedded room on the top floor looking down on the roof of the swimming pool. The grounds at the front of the property were lovely. The staffing levels need to increase, The wait to check in was rather a long time as it was only one girl on her own, and nobody to help us get our bags up the steps and into the hotel. One lift was out of order the first day, both part of the second day, then repaired but the access panel and control panel was finished off with silver duct tape.
The room was serviceable and very warm, pleasant bathroom with Elemis toiletries, decent tv, complimentary water and Prosceco.
The hotel was clean.
I have certain dietary requirements and had to tell them at all times as the staff were all different on each service. They did try to accommodate me. One draw back was the knives wouldn't cut melted butter! When I said to the waitress she said the knives were part of the hotel and couldn't be replaced. ( they could however be sharpened)
When the ticket for my order disappeared causing a 45minute wait for dessert and then having to chase a coffee they did give us the dessert and water and coffee free for the inconvenience.
The windows in the drawing room where we had afternoon tea wouldn't close which was uncomfortable as there was a very cold wind while we were there, and indeed one window had a considerable amount of shrubbery growing through it.
I could go on as there were many things that they haven't quite mastered but I went to relax and wasn't going to let it ruin my 3 day stay, even the £15 per day parking fee which we hadn't seen in the small print.
5* building and grounds and excellent position close to the town, They need more staff and better trained, with attention to detail.
