The staff at the spa were not very welcoming. My confirmation email stated that I was booked for the treatment at 3.30pm and when I arrived at the spa at 3.20pm, the staff member stated that I was late for my treatment as my treatment was at 3.00pm and as I did not take my phone with me I was unable to check my email to dispute this. The staff member asked whether I still wanted a treatment however it will only be for 25 minutes. I went ahead with the treatment which I felt was rushed and found the whole experience not very relaxing.
When I returned to my room, I checked my email on my phone and it did state on the email that my treatment was booked at 3.30pm. I rang the spa and informed them of this and they asked whether I can come back at 5.00pm for another 25 minute treatment. I did go again for another rushed unrelaxing 25 minute treatment.
No apologies from the staff about the booking times as I was not late in attending for my treatment. The whole experience was not relaxing.
Although on the original booking I had given details of all 3 guests and existing health conditions. None of this information had been transferred to the spa staff themselves. We were all offered different options fir treatments. Spa breaks told me that facials were not available. But at our first treatment we were told no that's not correct and 2 of the 3 of us had facials. Staff didn't know our names and when my friend mentioned she'd had breast cancer and would she be able to have a massage the therapist didn't know and had to check with her manager. She wasn't able to have that treatment. No health forms were available at either treatment. Treatments were OK, but nothing special. No where to wait.
My treatment with Ellie the therapist was very good, however she took me to the relaxation room to chill out out where they were no clean glasses and water jug empty. We also wanted a cup of tea and piece of cake in cafe at spa as it was my daughter's birthday, sorry we are shut!
They just seemed a shortage of staff in the spa.
Great spa, it's my 4th spa break at Oulton Hall and I'm never disappointed. The therapist was nice and the massage was OK. The pool is only small and it would be nice if there was room for sun loungers. The robes are one size which seems to be medium but after asking several times I managed to swap mine for another one which was slightly bigger!
Got there to discover one of our therapists had phoned in sick, so first tried to fob us off by saying we could have 25 mins each (we were meant to have 50 mins each), only when I was unhappy did they offer to give us another 25 mins the next day. This obviously meant we couldn’t get the treatments we wanted as we had to have two short ones, not the one long one we had wanted! No slippers when we arrived, informed some we expected after lunch, asked throughout the break and still none. By the time we left after lunch on the second day, they still didn’t have any! For me, this was extremely unhygienic, as we were then having to walk barefoot where people had been wearing outdoor footwear, or constantly having to put trainers and socks on every time we got out of the pool. Beds in the relaxation room were broken and didn’t raise up. Jacuzzi was nice but not big enough, it was always full and the pool quite empty. Could never get a seat at the poolside due to people leaving robes and towels on chairs but then never sitting on them! Treatments we had we okay.
We really enjoyed our visit to the spa although felt it needed a deep clean and upgrade in some areas. This did not detract from a really pleasant time also the staff were wonderful thank you.
An enjoyable day good value package. Some of the staff were very attentive others less so but polite and helpful when asked. The facilities were nice. The changing rooms were a little crowded and on the cold side. The food was lovely as was the lady serving and our therapist was very friendly and gave lovely treatments.
The spa was lovely, very relaxing. The Jacuzzi got a little busy but we managed to get in eventually.
I had a full body massage and would definitely recommend.
A little disappointed - prebooked treatments not available, spa very busy & seemed rushed, however, competent staff who delivered a good service.
Not many relaxation areas & some of the beds required repair
Amazing therapists!! They’re a credit to the hotel and spa!! Never felt so relaxed in my life!!
Just wished they had more things to use at the spa I.e consider a Tepidarium and or foot spa. And a lil warmer pool during the cooler months.
However, overall the facilities are lovely and modern and clean and I would recommend this place :)
Staff seemed confused about packages, treatments were poor. Going in late to treatment, and finishing early, and two identical treatments were totally different. Lack of strength/technique in treatment from therapists. Very disappointed for such a high profile location. Shame.
The place is grand in a beautiful setting. We were away for our wedding anniversary. We were told that upon booking they would tell the hotel this and they might be something they could do a little bit more special for the occasion. Upon arrival they knew nothing of this. But wasn't overly fussed about this. We were given out room cards and told where they were. No explanation to what was going to happen on our stay. Went to the room it was okay... black mould in the bathroom in the shower and bath. We then got ready and made our way down to the spa to try and find out what was going to happen an order of events ect and to use the facilities. Were pointed in a direction by staff that didn't really know what was happening. Had to go back and ask for robes and flip flops. Asked about the booking for the treatments and it took an age to check that we were booked in for 9am the following day. Other than that the facilities were good. We were offered no gin flight... in the hotel. Which was part of the package. Went to dinner at oyr allocated time and it was very good the highlight of the stay very good food and service. Breakfast was good the following morning. On to our spa appointments had to re schedule an hour later due to staff illness. Treatment was good. Booking in for the lunch was again a chore tho staff not knowing what was going on. One telling one thing and another saying another. Over all was okay not overly relxing didn't get the gin flight. Wont be going back.
The spa and treatments were great, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our one concern again would be the cleanliness of certain parts of the spa. Doors to sauna weren’t cleaned from the day before was one thing we noticed.
the hotel was too busy not enough staff. my daughter had poor facial experience & only found out when another theripist as about her treatment we did get a discount as no extra treatment available & because she was pregnant the steam room & sauna were out so was looking forward to treatments, relaxing rooms dated & tired
We both went for the back and neck massage and full body exfoliation. As this was my first experience I was unsure of what to expect, but was pleasantly pleased with the service. The masseuse was very friendly and kept us fully aware of what was going to happen. We both enjoyed the massage completely. The final part was a rest in the quiet room, on adjustable beds, which brought the whole experience to a very pleasant completion.
The spa was lovely again tho the staff were very condescending and rude the food was shocking for the price I ordered a £20 chicken with chips and I got a small hand full of chips and a chicken Brest about the size of a small child’s fist wasn’t worth the money paid
Facial/massage was exceptional. My therapist, Olivia, was brilliant, I felt relaxed and pampered by the time she finished. However the facilities are looking a bit tired. 50% of lockers not working, lots of puddles of water on the floor of the changing rooms, relaxation room untidy and none of the profiling beds work, hooks on the wall by the pool not properly fixed, even the towel on the therapy bed had holes in it. Your staff are great, but the whole place needs a refit.
The spa was lovely and well kept. There were quite a few people using it but it didn't feel over crowded. A large number of the lockers in the female changing room didn't work which was frustrating to get everything in and clothes hung to realise I needed to swap it. We went for lunch in the juice bar, rather limited menu but it was fine as we only wanted sandwiches. On ordering we were advised it would be half an hour. As we had treatments booked at 2pm we were worried we wouldn't have time to enjoy our lunch. Fortunately we did have time and the salmon sandwich was delicious. Unfortunat
ely the staff member got our order wrong twice and we had to keep retuning it. The treatment I had was super, very relaxing atmosphere in the room. The therapist was pleasant and friendly. Dinner was delicious and the staff were extremely friendly and courteous. After the meal we enquired about paying for the wine and advised to go to reception, this we did and were advised to pay in the restaurant. We didn't feel it was our place to have to walk around to find this out.
The pool area was nice but due to lack of space there were no lounges at the pool side to relax on although there was a couple of tables and chairs. Spa staff were lovely.
Good:
-Gym/Fitness staff very friendly - so friendly we ended up doing an unplanned aqua aerobics session.
-The spa team from the ladies in the cafe to the massage therapists were great!
-Massages very good.
Bad:
-Rude man on phone said if we weren’t there half an hour before hand our treatment would be cut short
-Barely any lockers worked.
The spa facilities; pool, sauna, steam and changing rooms were very clean and easy to use. There were indoor and outdoor seating areas with superb views.
The treatments however were a huge disappointment. The Saturday massage and pedicure treatments were not the hour promoted. One massage was overly harsh and painful; the pedicurist cut the left foot; one lady had to have her treatment delayed until the next day, because they didn't have any staff. Quite unacceptable.
The spa facilities were very good but the changing rooms were a bit tired & the toilets smelled awful. We did the Twilight spa package but didn’t receive our glass of Prosecco, For the money we paid, including a £40 supplement for a Friday booking we basically got 2 hours to use the spa & a treatment. However the treatments were very good. Not really good value for money.
Spa experience was pleasant and indulging. The spa was clean overall, showers were amazing, the steam room and swimming pool was lovely. The jacuzzi’s temperature on the first day of stay was very warm-hot around 40 degrees Celsius which was uncomfortable however this issue was resolved relatively fast. Treatments were average as I explained I wanted firm pressure during my massage treatment however staff were very professional and friendly. Facilities on the whole were clean and up to date. I had a lovely, relaxing and stimulating spa break. Would recommend to a friend for sure. I would just say that food prices were quite expensive and the portions were rather small unfortunately. However a wonderful professional spa x
My mum thoroughly enjoyed her treatment she was asked what strength she'd like for the massage and did the trick, however she did say that she only massaged one foot.
I om the other hand did not get asked what strength I wanted my massage, it wasnt a relaxing experience, lights were to bright, she was making noise throught rattling bottles and to say it was a back, legs and foot massage, my feet were more massaged at all, I felt rushed had a poor experience, I've had this massage at another hotel in the past which was amazing g...one of the reasons I picked it again, fortunately i enjoyed the jacuzzi and pool!
It seems you get preferential treatment when booking in large groups, myself and mother felt second class when not given the robe and slippers and simply asked to wait for our treatments whilst the other parties were given all attention. We followed the que of people at our allotted time fully clothed and not prepared for our treatments due to the fact the people in teh Spa were not attentive enough. It was disappointing as this was my mothers day gift to my mother.
Everything in the spa was a bit run down, multiple lockers in the changing rooms just had holes where the lock used to be, the relaxation room had beds which sat up but only 5/9 of the beds actually worked, the dressing gowns felt like they had been through a few too many washes. The lunch was really nice actually and the lady with the bob length blonde hair behind the cafe bar was really nice, however, the Bento Box felt a bit like a prison tray and was quite hard to eat out of. There was always a queue for the Jacuzzi and the facilities weren't anything more than you would get at a nice gym and obviously with it being a spa and general use gym it was too busy and it felt like the people who were there with a gym membership didn't want us there as much as we didn't really want them there. All a bit awkward.
The massage was really nice but ended 10 mins early and the girl who massaged my mum had a big hole in the back of her trousers.
My mum asked if the relaxation bed I was on worked because you can't just lie flat on them so one girl said she would try and get an 'engineer' then never came back, one girl said there were some on order and one said she would go find more pillows but again never came back.
When we first arrived they also asked me for payment to which I said I'd already paid and she said she had no proof of that so do I have my booking email which I didn't as it was on my work phone so she asked me if I could send it when I got home which was just bizarre, surely she should have a record of it and if not just call Spa Breaks herself? That was who I presume was the manager or head of reception and when we were eating our lunch she came round to sit on a table with a customer who I presume is a member of the gym and was leaning all over his table, eating food of his plate and speaking all hushed and whispering which was really inappropriate and weird. She also didn't smile once which isn't a good thing for someone who is sat on reception to do.
There was a short haired blonde therapist who I asked for a dry dressing gown when she was literally stood next to reception and she said 'go ask reception' and walked off which was quite unfriendly and unprofessional then the personal trainer girl behind reception said yes like she really didn't want to give me one.
Overall it was a really average day but the massage and lunch was nice, we left basically straight after that.
The spa facilities are the hotel facilities plus spa treatment rooms so a gym, a pool, sauna and steam room. The sauna was out of order for our stay. There isn't room around the pool area for loungers and it's quite tight once it's busier for people sitting around the pool.
When we arrived we weren't shown around the areas like we have been previously at other spas so we were unaware of the relaxation room until later in the day. We also had to ask about our lunch vouchers and where we needed to go for treatments etc which could have easily been sorted if we'd have been shown around.
Considering there is a cafe/restaurant as part of the spa we thought it was strange that we had to go to the main hotel restaurant for lunch which involved us getting changed in to our normal clothes rather than staying in our robes.
The treatment was really good and once we found the relaxation room it was great.
We booked a one night stay at Oulton Hall using a pre-booked package at spabreaks, which included a bottle of champagne in the room, a 1 hour treatment, £28 towards dinner and breakfast and a light lunch the next day.
Spa:
My partner and I had both pre-booked the aromatherapy massage and we were told we would be in the same room for it. On arrival at the spa, everything was a bit 'all over the place'. There were lots of confused visitors everywhere not sure where to go, and the spa reception staff did not really know what was going on. We were told to sit down and wait for the therapists to come and take us for our treatments. Our treatment time was at 5pm and we had arrived in advance of that. We were waiting until 5:20pm (well into our treatment time) until two therapists came out to get us. They were not very friendly and rushed us into our separate rooms although we booked to be together. In the corridor, there were four therapists who were gossiping about some of the visitors and were extremely unprofessional, a few other hotel guests in the local area heard this too. The atmosphere seemed hostile, tense and unfriendly which is the opposite of what a spa should be.
I cannot comment for my partner, but my therapist had no idea what she was doing and told me I was booked in for a completely different treatment. She was very kind, however had a very poor professional attitude and could not communicate effectively at all. I tried to clarify the situation with the spa reception, who also had no idea what was going on. I agreed to have the alternative treatment. In the treatment room, there was no music, and in the corner of the room was a mountain of used dirty towels. The experience was pretty awkward and rushed. Later that evening, the manager of the spa was very professional and apologised and offered my partner and I a 30min treatment of our choice the next day for free.
As my treatment started 20minutes late due to no fault of my own, I assumed I would still be given the full hour that I booked, however the therapist cut my appointment half an hour short despite this.
Breakfast and the light lunch:
The food was simple but lovely and the restaurant staff were nice.
Overall, we had a good stay however we both came away feeling a little disappointed. We are medical students who had to save up for this experience and we did not feel welcome.
We had a lovely time and even though we were cancelled from our original booking. Due to illness of therapists they more than made up for the change of day. The treatment were fantastic and the staff were very helpful. I didnt give 5* for the staff as a member was meant to come and let us know something but must have been busy and forgot. I was trivial but just let down their customer service a bit. It did not spoil our day. Just a little learning for the spa. Top class day was had!! ☺
Overall great day and good value for money. The spa in general was very busy and understaffed so getting served lunch although great took quite a long time.
It felt like everything had been cheapened because we were on a package deal. i.e 'light lunch' was a bit like school dinners. The staff couldn't tell us what was in the vegetarian option.
They gave you robes to wear but had run out flips flops so we had walk around in bare feet.
The area you waited for your treatment was a cafe where people (not on the package deals presumably) were eating lunch and if you wanted a drink while you waited you had to go buy one, not even a water was offered.
During the treatment the room was cold.
I had the fit for business massage and it was okay but I've had much better. My therapist never spoke to me from the minute she started my massage until it had ended. Never asked me if I was happy with the pressure applied etc..
After the treatment we were taken to a relax room to rest and re-hydrate - the water jug was empty and we were leaving the room before anyone came to fill it up.
The places to sit and relax around the pool area were in short supply.
You had to shower before and after using the sauna/steam room. There were 2 showers outside and one was broken
There was nothing significantly bad about any of it. But none of it was as good as it should have been.
I won't go again and I certainly wouldn't recommend it.
It might have been a a'value' package deal but it still cost a lot of money.
The spa is modern and well laid out. The steam and sauna rooms are very hot and fairly small but adequate for the numbers even when it is busy. The light in the steam room is very bright so it is difficult to relax properly there. The pool is on the small side but is fine for a swim when it isn't too busy. The gym and workout rooms are round the pool with windows facing inwards. There are chairs and sofas around the pool so loungers would be better as most people wanted to put their feet up and were using the chairs for this.
The treatment and relaxation rooms are comfortable and a good size. We were in a large group and the treatments themselves were varied dependant on the therapist. Some were excellent and others not so good. However, when we raised this with the manager we were offered more treatments or wine with dinner. Overall our experience was very good.
There is also a small café area in the spa which serves a range of cold food, snacks and drinks. The staff are lovely and I enjoyed a sandwich and pot of tea there when I arrived early on the first day.
I would definitely visit this spa again.
Our treatments were very good and we felt very relaxed
The double treatment room was great as we got to have our treatments together rather than being staggered
the spa is good, however the staff who do the treatments seem to have a quick turn around, one in one out it's all a bit rushed, I checked our treatments by phone before we went and again on arrival, we were a group of 4 an got 2 of our treatments down at the wrong times, but for what we paid we would still go again
All staff were extremely helpful and lovely!
I personally loved Paige (young lady with brown hair) in the bar, she could not help us enough. She realised it was a special occasion for myself and my boyfriend and she just made it even more special!
The restaurant staff were helpful but slow service.
The atmosphere and interior of the restaurant was such a let down and did not match the rest of the hotel.
The design of the restaurant is dark and miserable. Original we were sat by the cutlery cart, then we asked to move and unfortunately we were moved to the darkest corner of the restaurant (even though there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant at this time)
There were broken holes in the seats, white stains on the curtains.
I would not eat in the restaurant again even if the breakfast was included.
The whole experience was so so lovely regardless!
Rather disappointed in the staff especially in the restaurant. Very poor customer service & seemed no body knew what they were doing? Very unorganised
Food was average nothing special. Room was very basic
Best thing was the massage but with reduced facilities it definitely wasn’t work the £270 for a 1 night stay
Will not be returning
The bar and restaurant area, are lovely. The rooms however are basic, well worn and the bathroom very poor. The original booking had been made in March 2020 for 3 people in a family twin room. We checked in and were given a double room. We complained and were moved to another room. The extra bed was brought into the room later. It was very very old, dirty and held together with rope! Not what you'd expect from a 4 star hotel.
We booked in early with one receptionist (3 of us) then went back at 1.00 to see if the room was ready, which it was. When we got in the room it only had 2 beds. When we went down again another receptionist said there were only 2 people on the list. She wasn’t very helpful but begrudgingly said she would sort another bed out. I had to show her the confirmation email. They also only had 2 down for lunch and evening meal.
I've stayed here several times and it's a gorgeous hotel. I asked for a twin room and got a double but it was OK.
The only downside was we couldn't get checked into our room until 3pm so we had to come to the check in with robes on as we were in the spa having treatments etc and lunch so I think spa stay guests should be able to have the rooms from 11am. Also the drinks in the bar are really expensive £10 for a cocktail so we only has a couple of rounds!
Everything was lovely generally. however the triple room had a double bed and a single roll away bed. We were 3 ladies, so would have preferred 3 proper single beds.
Room was nice and quite clean. Bed was very comfy. Phoned ahead of time to ask which restaurants we could use our allocation towards dinner at, and was informed I could use it at both restaurants and room service. Looked at menus and planned one to go to, only for staff to tell me when I got there that the one I wanted was shut for winter - nice to be told that when I phoned! Plans ruined and then had to wait until 6:30pm (which is too late in my eyes) to eat at a pricey restaurant where we only liked mains. Starters and desserts choices were appalling!
My daughter and I had a much needed short break at Oulton Hall. From our arrival to departure nothing was to much trouble for the staff team and the food was delicious. We really thought our beds were very comfortable and came away happy and refreshed thank you.
We've been to Oulton Hall on numerous occasions previously and have always had a great time. The staff are lovely and personable. Everything else, spa, rooms, treatments, food etc is just perfect. Absolutely no complaints. Other than I wish we'd booked another night.
Everything was great apart from the evening meal, 50 minute wait between starter and main, due to printer issues, starter and main could have been better, dessert fantastic so was breakfast.
A really nice place to stay. All the staff are amazing and the quality of food from the restaurants are really good too. Decor in the hotel and spa are really good especially during Christmas. The beauty therapists are absolutely amazing!! Never felt so relaxed in my life!! Definitely worth trying the spa treatments!! Overall really pleased with our stay.
Just a few things, the spa could do with more choices and more warmth to the pool and the room was a good size and relatively comfortable, just that the cleaners missed a few spots here and there i.e. finding random hair grips in our room when I don’t use them is a lil awkward. Other than that the room is nice and would be happy to stay again :)
We had a wonderful stay, it was relaxing and the staff and facilities are great. Our one comment would be the cleanliness of parts of the hotel were slightly dirty.
we were extremely disappointed with the service we received for dinner (26th October).
We had arranged our dinner reservation for 20:45 and arrived at the dining room at this time. We were told by the young girl at the desk that our table would be 2 minutes and asked to wait in the foyer and she would come and get us when our table was ready. We waited for 20 minutes and still hadn’t been called through so I went back to ask if our table was ready. We were then kept waiting for another 5 minutes whilst staff were wondering around the restaurant tidying menus and the girl on the desk took 2 or 3 receipts over to other tables, to then be told our table was still not ready. Two men then walked in saying they hadn’t booked and asked for a table and were seated down straight away right in front of us.
At this stage the dining room was half empty and I appreciate the restaurant was busy earlier, but it only takes a few minutes to relay a table and seat us and it was very inconsiderate of the girl at the front desk to seat two people that just walked in without a reservation before us. It almost felt as if we were invisible just stood there.
As we were then told the table was still not ready, we went to the bar and ordered a bottle of wine and then were sat waiting another 20-25 minutes. It wasn’t until 21:30 when we had been waiting 45 minutes that we then re-entered the dining room (still not having been seen to) and asked again if our table was ready, to be told she was then going to set our table. We were then seated a few minutes later, the table was not set properly with no napkins or glasses. It then took another 20-25 minutes before anyone came to take our order; bearing in mind that half of the staff were now wondering around aimlessly tidying and no one seemed to have been assigned to look after us.
We ordered a starter to share and mains. The mains then arrived another 30 minutes after we ordered (time now being 22:20). Our starter hadn’t come at this point, so we pointed that out to the very nice gentlemen that was running the food who was very apologetic and had the starter brought out after the main 10 minutes later. We were also never given a steak knife for the steak.
I then had to get up and ask 2 times for sauces and then again twice for some more water. I was also told by the girl on the front desk that you didn’t have any mayonnaise, when we had seen some on another table and had some with our lunch.
Not once did anyone come and check the food was ok or If we wanted anything else. We were never asked if we wanted more wine.
It then took 30 minutes after we’d finished our meal before anyone came to clear our plates, at which point I told the girl who was at the front desk that we were very disappointed with the service and agreed it had been unacceptable, but that was the extent of the conversation and it didn’t seem very sincere.
Was too late for dessert By the time we eventually got asked at 23:10.
As i said before the hotel was overbooked they had not considered there was not a wedding where those guests didn't use the spa & restaurant as at the wedding do, so the spa was too busy, we spoke to the manager claire steven who was lovely & explained the situation , & apologised & offered us discount if we were to book again which we will as this was the second time we had visited this hotel we had a hen do there last year, the staff where we had lunch were lovely & attentive it was the restaurant in the evening & breakfast that went wrong but they were so short staffed which she did say 3 staff had phoned in sick & some therapists too, the hotel is lovely & the surroundings were beautiful, like i said we will return to see if the expirence is better.
The rooms were not ready until late afternoon so we went into the spa. After when we tried to get our rooms they still were not ready. The service in the restaurant was very poor. We asked for drinks to have with our meal and still didnt get them 2 hours later. After complaining we were given complimentary prossecco and had the drinks that we had received removed from the bill. The rooms were lovely and very comfortable but unfortunately the fire alarm went off and it was chaos with no staff around to help.
The amount of time we were told ‘sorry we’re busy’ was unacceptable. Our whole group were left feeling that our needs were not important because we were not part of a wedding party. We were expecting to have a luxurious and relaxing weekend when in reality we have had a better service while staying in budget hotels.
When we reached, we were given a small room for 3 people. It took many hours to get it sorted and we were rushed for our spa treatment by then.In compensation we were given late check out.
Great hotel, very under staffed . Spa was good and rooms good but couldn’t get a drink at the bar after dinner-2 bar staff run off their feet and ran out of glasses. Also corridors to room and spa not cleaned enough, we noted false eyelashes, a sausage an earth worm -laughable.. but not really!
This is a very imposing and impressive building with a large and convenient car park. The room was comfortable and the bathroom well equipped and the view from the room was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the evening meal was very tasty. As is the case with many hotels the price of drinks was quite high. The only disappointment was the breakfast, even though the quality and variety of the food was good but unfortunately the food warmer didn’t work as expected and some food items were barely warm, cold black pudding is not a pleasant experience. Overall our stay was very enjoyable and we will, more than likely, visit again.
Came here for my mums birthday & we want to return already. The rooms were lovely, hotel deco really impressive, had a wander around the grounds too. Reception staff & butler really nice & friendly. The butler even came with me to my car to help with our cases & took them to our room. Went to the spa for a ‘fit for business massage’ & my mum kept saying how it’s the best massage she’s ever had.
I think the pool area could do with brightening up & maybe more sun type loungers but overall what a lovely night away.
Evening dinner was gorgeous.
Would defiantly recommend
Room was lovely the food whole experience was okay very price tho and the staff are very condescending and cheeky will try everything to get you to spend more even try and charge you twice
The room room was well equipped and clean with a very comfortable bed. The bathroom however, was tired and long past ready for replacing. It wasn't what one would expect of a hotel of this standard.
The hotel was beautiful and well kept and clean. The staff were lovely and very attentive. The food on the restaurant was exceĺlent but the price of a bottle of wine was far too expensive. Overall we enjoyed our break.
Up market traditional hotel - rooms perhaps a little tired and bathroom could do with a re furbishment but clean - hotel overall very luxurious and traditional old fashioned style - lovely staff - bar areas and lounge and restaurant lovely ( wine by the glass very expensive £13.50 ) food lovely and breakfast good
Good:
-The food was really good.
-Comfy bed and great shower!
Bad:
-Very stingy on drinks - we had to ask on four separate occasions for a jug of tap water alongside our cocktails, on two occasions we were just provided with a small drop of water in a wine glass. Coffee with breakfast also rationed.
-We were charged a compulsory tip even though we had water issues and our order came wrong. Took 10 minutes for the bill to arrive and another 10 to pay, where the card machine asked for yet another tip?
-The room was insanely hot even with the air con on.
-Male waiter said he hates working there.
My party were celebrating a birthday and opted for a spa break at Oulton Hall. We were given champagne vouchers which was a lovely treat. One of our rooms had a leak in the ceiling so we were moved, it was to an upgraded room. The staff said they would move our bags while we were at dinner, but they didn't so we had to do it ourselves. In the new room the shower tray didn't sufficiently drain the water away which meant it started to flood the living room, lots of towels were used. The food at dinner and at breakfast was amazing, they must have very good chefs.
Bed was very comfortable and rooms clean. Could do with being modernised, especially the bathrooms as the bath was that old it was stained. Glasses in the bathroom not clean. Reception staff and doorman very friendly but service in bar’s very slow and overpriced. No music in the bar or restaurant, not very atmospheric.
We had lunch in the champagne bar and it was lovely. The staff were professional and were very prompt in serving you. Couldn’t fault it especially a waiter named Hussein. A few members of staff could learn a lot from him on customer service.
However, in the restaurant for the evening meal the service was appalling! The group visit was for my mums 60th. The consistency of some of the food was awful, the veg was raw and one of the steaks was like a leather handbag. When dessert and coffees were ordered, one of our party received theirs but the coffees never arrived. We were not going to be told until we asked and were told the coffee machine for cappuccinos was actually broke. A few minutes later another party member received a black coffee which can only be described as a small soup bowl with no saucer. The staff were rude when asking for assistance and when we made a complaint nobody came back to tell us any update until we had to go to the till. It spoilt the end of what was a very nice day! No refund was offered apart from a complimentary drink which again for the amount of money spent on the weekend was very poor!
From start to finish our experience was fantastic all the staff were very friendly nothing was too much trouble. The evening meal was lovely lots of choice very well presented and again the staff were all very friendly exactly the same at breakfast lots of choice nothing was too much trouble
We booked a twin room but got given a double.
If you book a package break they put you in the older rooms.
The courtesy bolt on the door was missing and the sink was blocked
The food was incredibly expensive (view hotel menu online) and the portions were super small
Our room was really nice, spacious, clean and had all we needed to enjoy time spent in the room. The hotel building and surrounding gardens and landscape was excellent. That is where it stops, as the attitude of most of the staff apart from one or two exceptions was abysmal therefore we didn't enjoy our stay at Oulton Hall at all, such a shame when in such a fantastic setting things could be so different. I have stayed in a few Qhotels none with such a poor staff approach. My suggestion would be to arrange for some staff to visit Tankersley Manor and shadow some of the staff there to learn a more polite cheerful and helpful approach to future guests. As you will gather from this feedback we will not be booking again at Oulton Hall as beautiful surroundings and buildings do not outweigh friendly helpful and enthusiastic staff. I really hope you take this as a constructive criticism and do something about it. Over to you.
Hotel room was very modern looking, clean and comfortable however sink plug was not draining water properly. We were not provided with sufficient amount of towels either. The value for money at the dining restaurant was quite expensive but overall, the food was decent, staff were very friendly and professional and the hotel stay experience was positive and relaxing :)
Unfortunately there was wedding party at the hotel who took over the champagne bar making it very difficult to get served in the evening before dinner.
We did eventually get served however we nearly gave up at £30 plus for 2 gin and tonic I doubt if I would wait next time.
Beautiful location, grounds and room.
Staff were always happy to help you.
However the drinks were ridiculously priced, especially when you looked at the price the bottles were going for in shops...
Also, if you had extra food from the allowance they did a separate bill to the drinks one which resulted in 2x VAT and 2x service charges extra to pay which was not right at all, this was the downside to the stay.
Unfortunately our stay at Oulton Hall was disappointing in many ways and I will not be visiting again. Our room was incorrectly booked, i had booked 6 weeks prior a twin room for myself and mother for mother's day but had to wait while it was corrected as i was allocated a double room. Our evening meal was enjoyable until paying which took 20mins for us to be able to pay the bill! At breakfast we were not offered a refill of a hot drink and my plate was removed whilst I was still eating I was too embarrassed to say anything! Our visit at the spa was just as bad as we were ignored and not given a robe and slippers as a large birthday and hen party seemed to get preferential treatment! Even the therapist asked us where is your robe when coming to collect us for treatments but by then it was too late and we just wanted to have our treatments and leave. Very disappointing considering I had paid £280 for a package of overnight stay and one spa treatment each to have my mothers day gift to my mother not turn out to be the 4 star treatment I had promised her. I was also very glad I had not left my bank card details at reception as it took them some time to work out I had already paid in full upon booking my stay, so I could have been charged twice. Sorry I will not be recommending any of the facilities highly disappointed.
The hotel is set in lovely grounds and it was a beautiful sunny day when we arrived.
The deal we booked was great value for what was included.
The restaurant is very dark though but rooms are comfortable and it's easy to get to from the M62.
We booked a one night stay at Oulton Hall using a pre-booked package at spabreaks, which included a bottle of champagne in the room, a 1 hour treatment, £28 towards dinner and breakfast and a light lunch the next day.
On arrival:
The grounds were absolutely stunning and the reception staff were lovely. We arrived and were shown our room, which was also lovely, however the bottle of champagne was missing from the room. We told reception, and they apologised and sent the champagne up in an ice bucket (but with no glasses).
Spa:
It was then time for our pre-booked treatments at the spa, my partner and I had both pre-booked the aromatherapy massage and we were told we would be in the same room for it.
Dinner:
The food was excellent and our waiter was lovely. We had a very positive experience at dinner. Minor issues were that there was no music, so the atmosphere in the dining hall was a bit bland and stark. Also, our bill took 45 minutes to come out, not sure why.
Breakfast and the light lunch:
The food again was excellent and the restaurant staff were lovely.
Me and my partner had a very nice stay. We spent the whole weekend there and felt so relaxed the whole time, the food was fantastic, the spa was great, and the staff were very professional and friendly, can't wait to come back soon.
All the staff were great especially Alexis (Belguim ) who looked after us in the restaurant in the evening... speaking of the restaurant, the food was amazing... the beer food I've eaten in a hotel for a very long time.
The main are of the hotel is lovely but the room we had was very dated.
The staff were friendly enough but the whole experience was a bit of a let down.
The food in the restaurant on the evening was lovely but drinks were hideously expensive.
The breakfast was awful.
Lovely Hotel with great facilities and very helpful and professional staff. The bars and general areas are comfortable and plush and drinks are reasonably priced. The meals are lovely and the waiting staff are efficient and helpful. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable and the hotel grounds are well groomed and pleasant to walk around.
The hotel was beautiful, clean and accommodating. The food was delicious and good size portions but the service was quite slow which is my reason for a lower score.
Always fabulous at Oulton Hall.
Lovely staff, fantastic location, superb bar & one of the best treatments I’ve ever had.
The only negatives would be that there was no complimentary water in the room and the robe given to me following my treatment was very very worn with tears & pulls all over it making it very scruffy indeed.
I would definitely return as it’s out “go to” place for an overnight spa break!!!!!!
Well be4 we got there I rang them just 2 see about doing the room up as we stayed for a special for my daughter 30 just three of us i even payed more for room and they said the maid for rooms what she did not no anything about having 3 in a room and we book a meal for evening but we was moved as there was a wedding on in the room we was eating in pluse we never had a coat as the room was in hotel we walk over 2 other place and it was dark raining so not happy at all plus I payed for extra for massage never got it
lovely spacious twin room, comfy beds fridge and safe, very clean. staff all really friendly and helpful.Great value for money, we will certainly return.
We visited Oulton hall for my sisters 16th birthday and cousins 30th. Over all we had a wonderful relaxing stay here and would definitely return. There are parts of the spa and rooms that require a little updating and apart from a little confusion with the room service we all really enjoyed our stay!
The twin room was spacious with two comfortable armchairs and a large flat screen tv. The bed was spacious and comfortable. The en-suite was well stocked with paper, tissues and toiletries. Also a powerful shower. All very clean.
