What to do on a spa break in Sardinia

Wild countryside and prehistoric sites, roads ruled by sheep and the dreamiest of beaches - these are just some of the things that draw travellers to Sardinia in all its glory on romantic holidays, individual escapes and family holidays that are an opportunity for children to experience real natural beauty…

sardinia beaches

Out-of-this-world beaches

Famed for the whitest of white sand and the most alluring blue seas, Smeralda’s scalloped bays are the playground where celebrities and supermodels frolic in emerald waters. Walk barefoot across the dunes on the wave-lashed Costa Verde or lounge on the Costa del Sud’s silky smooth bays - either way, it’s a haven for relaxation.

sardinia sailing

Sail into the blue

The bays and climate make Sardinia a sailor’s paradise - charter a yacht and dive into the water off the deck. If sailing isn’t your thing then then island is a waterspouts playground. It’s irresistible to windsurfers on the north coast, while divers wax lyrical about shipwrecks off Cagliari’s coast, the underwater Nereo Cave and Nora’s submerged Roman ruins. For something a little less high octane but no less inspiring, take walk along the vertiginous coastal path to the crescent-shaped bay of Cala Luna.

sardinia city

Albino donkeys and Bronze Age towers

DH Lawrence was a fan, and it is as much Sardinia’s inspiring wildlife as its historic myths that make it so mystical. This is the place where blue-eyed albino donkeys roam on the Isola dell’Asinara and 7000 nuraghi, Bronze Age towers are scattered along the plains. There are tombe dei giganti (‘giant’s grave’ tombs) and domus de janas (‘fairy house’ tombs), and prehistory intertwines with today’s world seamlessly and inspiringly.
