It is with great joy that we welcome this iconic day spa destination, which many see is the ultimate spa experience in the UK. Certainly, it is one on which much spa tradition has been built. The site of the famous baths has been attracting visitors for more than 8,000 years, thanks to the longstanding belief in the healing properties of its natural springs.
Legend has it that the city of Bath itself was founded around the springs in 863BC, after Prince Bladud, who had contracted leprosy, was cured after bathing in the hot muddy waters. It was the Romans however, who immortalised the experience in stone. They developed the ‘Aquae Sulis’ as a sanctuary of rest and relaxation. It was then in AD 70, that the Romans built a reservoir around the hot springs, and then a sophisticated series of baths and a temple dedicated to the goddess Sulis Minerva - a name that remains sacrosanct in the reincarnated spa.
Having been resurrected in 2006, Thermae Bath Spa continues to attract guests with its particular brand of magic. Its four main baths are still fed by the natural thermal, mineral-rich waters. However, it has been enhanced by beautiful design and a fusion of glass, stone, natural light and water, which works in harmony with the traditional classical and Georgian architectural features that remain intact.
