Read full postA charming hotel on the outskirts of York, for an elegant spa escape with lots of local activities, here are just a few of the reasons we love The Parsonage Hotel & Spa.
As the name suggests, the ivy-clad Parsonage Hotel is a former clergy property that dates back to the 1840s and was designed by architect FC Penrose - the man behind nearby St Mary's Church. That heritage remains clear and celebrated thanks to its many original architectural features. It’s also referenced in the names of the restaurant and spa as well.
Guests have a choice of places to stay at The Parsonage Hotel & Spa with 50 rooms and suites divided across the Main House, the Coach House, the Cottage, and the Lodge. The options make it extremely versatile, whether you're on a romantic break or visiting with friends - you can even opt for a four-poster bed.
The hotel itself sits in six glorious acres of formal gardens, which are perfect for a stroll before dinner. However, it's also just a short drive from York, which is brimming with places to go and things to see, from museums, shops and restaurants to the famous York Minster cathedral.
The characterfully named Fat Abbot is the hotel's popular restaurant, inviting you to enjoy formal dining from a locally sourced menu. It has a quintessentially Yorkshire vibe (think warm welcomes and superb ingredients) - especially when it comes to their traditional afternoon tea.
Amidst all the heritage, the Cloisters Spa makes reference to the property's heritage, but invites you into a world of modern wellness. In a new building in the grounds of the estate, it has a gym, and a 16-metre pool in a conservatory (so you can enjoy garden views), a sauna, steam room and aromatherapy salt room, not to mention a collection of treatments from Elemis.
