The Spa Effect: rediscovering the things that make you feel like you

Spotlight On … Amida Farnham

First Impressions

Near the market town of Farnham in Surrey, the description of Amida Spa Farnham as part of the area’s David Lloyd Club is somewhat misleading – the implication being that it has the air of a gym.  This place however, is what spa is all about, in all its contemporary, purpose-built glory.

The Spa

You may or may not be aware, that Amsterdam has a serious spa tradition, and this forms the inspiration of the philosophy at Amida, thanks to its sister venue in the city itself, and culminating in their signature Sauna Ritual which is offered to all guests as a matter of course.  When it comes to facilities, guests have access to the David Lloyd leisure areas, gym and classes, as well as the spa’s own salt water infinity pool with underwater speakers, an outdoor pool as well as outdoor Jacuzzi and two saunas catering for more than 20 people – yes, 20!  There is a plunge pool, footbaths, an ice fountain, a tepidarium, a salt grotto, experience showers, saunas, steam rooms, manicure and pedicure stations complete with massage chairs, and five relaxation rooms.  As if that wasn’t enough entertainment for one day, there are also six treatment rooms and one dual room using a combination of Aromatherapy Associates, Mama Mio, Jessica, Rodial, Mii, and Alpha-H products.

The Restaurant

The spa café is on two floors with buzzers for waitress service and Wi-fi for those who require it, although I would highly recommend making the most of this place and putting the emails down for the day.

The Location

The spa is easily accessible by car, and is close to Farnham itself, which is characterised by Georgian architecture and the always scenic backdrop of Surrey!

The Verdict

The spa has a great range of prenatal treatments, and thanks to the amount of space, it is brilliant for hen parties and group gatherings as well.  It really utilises the amount of space available, whether that’s doing Tai Chi classes outside when the weather is right, or adding those extra luxuries such as a private mini relaxation area in the dual treatment room.  What initially sounds like a uniform brand turns out to be a spa jewel that will happily entertain you throughout the day (and as it is open late, you really can enjoy it throughout the whole day).

Top Tips

  • The sauna rituals take place at 11am, 3pm and 7pm, so be careful not to miss out, it’s a unique opportunity.
  • The spa is open from 9am-9pm on weekdays meaning you can really make the most out of your day.
  • Classes can only be booked on the day so check the timetable before arrival and plan what time to arrival to fully maximise the day .
