A blissful group Getaway: London Beach Hotel, Golf Club & Spa

If you are looking for a relaxed, friend-focused escape, the London Beach Hotel, Golf Club & Spa in Tenterden is a fantastic option - relaxed, friendly, and with plenty to do, all at a great price.

A group of us from the Spabreaks.com team went for an overnight stay recently and would definitely go back with friends for quality time together. Here’s what you need to know:

Getting there and first impressions

Our arrival set the tone for the experience with a scenic drive through the Kent countryside and its many charming villages. When we arrived, the parking setup wasn’t immediately obvious - in essence because there are plenty of places to park, which is extremely useful.

When we stepped inside, we were greeted warmly by Frankie the cat - their rescued mascot who wanders around the property looking for sunbeams. Of course, the team was also charming and made us feel right at home.

Flexible accommodation

As we settled in we were escorted to our rooms, which were huge and made you feel very at home. Ours was a triple room (again, great for groups) which opened up onto a balcony, which added to the sense of space. There’s a variety of room options, including double and triple rooms, and if you are visiting with friends, you might want to consider the 3 for 2 Spa Break package where a third guest stays free in triple rooms, making a getaway incredibly cost-effective.

The spa facilities

Of course, the main focus of our visit was time in the spa, and one of the nicest design features of the hotel is that you have direct access to the spa right from the bedrooms. Your towels and robes are waiting for you in your room when you arrive, so you can change and walk down without having to pass through any main public spaces. If you do choose to use the spa changing rooms, they are lovely, clean, and spacious with private changing areas (just remember to bring a £1 coin for the lockers).

The women's changing room has a bit of a ‘hidden gem’ in my opinion, in the form of its own spa area complete with a couple of loungers, its own steam room, sauna, hot tub, and a monsoon shower. It isn't heavily used by regular members, making it a dream for a group of friends who want to chat freely without worrying about disturbing anyone else. With its mood lighting and calm ambiance, it’s a peaceful space for solo travelers seeking quiet as well.

That said, since we were a mixed group we spent most of our time in the main part of the spa, where the hydrotherapy pool is massive, beautifully clean, and never felt overly busy. It features excellent massage jets, but I highly recommend using the swimming pool first, and then moving to the warmer hydro pool so you don’t get a temperature shock! There is also a main sauna and steam room.

Another thing to note is the thoughtful design in the showers, which are large and have a curtain you can pull over to create a completely private changing cubicle right inside the stall.

Spa treatments

There’s a great range of treatments available (using high-end brands like Clarins and ESPA). They also have a dry floatation bed where you stay fully clothed, and a 20-minute session is supposed to be the relaxing equivalent of a full night's sleep. A special shoutout goes to Sarah at the spa desk (which features a little coffee and tea area); there wasn't a single question she couldn't answer!

Relaxed dining with a view

The back of the hotel opens up onto the golf course, offering intrinsically relaxing views. Our package included dinner, and the restaurant has a wonderfully convivial, family-friendly vibe. It’s a relaxed space with a mix of spa guests, golfers, and families enjoying themselves, and the menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. They lean into seasonal, quality ingredients, so everything tasted incredibly fresh. I had a delicious pork chop with mashed potatoes, while the rest of the table enjoyed kebabs, Cumberland sausages, and fish. The staff were attentive and lovely, and, of course, Frankie the cat joined us again in search of those early evening sunbeams.

Breakfast and check-out

The next morning, breakfast was lovely. I had to head off early to make it back to work, but the rest of the group thoroughly enjoyed a hot cooked breakfast, which includes everything from a full English to perfectly poached eggs. Check-out is at a generous 11:00 AM, giving everyone plenty of time to enjoy the morning and nurse a coffee before getting back to real life.
