A world-class country escape: Visiting The Spa at Carden

If you are looking for the ultimate destination to escape the daily grind, it’s hard to beat Carden Park. Set within a spectacular 1,000-acre estate in the Cheshire countryside, this luxury hotel and resort feels like another world from the moment you arrive. We visited as a group of five for an overnight stay, and it is safe to say it exceeded every expectation.

Our experience began as we turned into the estate, meandering down a magnificent driveway. It takes a good five minutes to reach the main house as you navigate past their two championship golf courses, setting the tone for a grand and peaceful stay.

Beautiful rooms and blissful views

Upon checking in, we were delighted by the bedrooms, which have been beautifully and newly refurbished. The interiors are designed with blue and green themes, and the attention to detail is lovely. Our rooms were absolutely huge, offering panoramic views of the golf course and a large, central fountain. Waking up to that view in the morning was incredibly special and I made a point of making time to enjoy simply being in the space.

An immersive spa sanctuary

The Spa at Carden is an adult-only retreat that sits separately from the hotel within the grounds. After being shown over, we were given wristbands for access. We were blessed with a beautiful day to explore the 2,500 square metre spa garden at our leisure, and wrapped in our robes and slippers we sat with glasses of Prosecco and took it all in.

The outdoor facilities are nothing short of spectacular. There are outdoor Jacuzzis, an outdoor pool, and a gorgeous fire pit to sit by. While there were plenty of people around, the vast space meant it never felt busy; in fact, a lot of the time we had a pool entirely to ourselves, allowing us to spend hours sunbathing. For an extra touch of luxury, they also have pods in the spa garden that you can hire out for lunch.

Though we didn’t book any specific treatments on this visit, we spent four wonderful hours fully experiencing the spa. We enjoyed a delicious lunch in the spa restaurant, which overlooks the gardens and has views extending out into the countryside. I ordered the Crispy Chicken Bao Bun, which was wonderful.

After lunch, we headed inside to try the indoor thermal facilities. The indoor pool features magnificent floor-to-ceiling windows so you can still see outside. The sauna is equally amazing, offering expansive views of the countryside. Another highlight was the outdoor relaxation room, complete with hanging dried flowers that created a really relaxing atmosphere.

Exceptional dining

After showering back in our rooms, we got ready for dinner, and it turned out to be one of the best meals I have ever had. We dined in a space with lots of windows and the atmosphere really made it feel like a special occasion without being too formal.

The food quality and attention to detail were exceptional. I started with a fantastic tomato soup, and for my main course, I had a phenomenal beef short rib served with potatoes and asparagus, followed by a decadent chocolate torte for pudding. The next morning, we wrapped up our culinary experience with a really great, fresh buffet breakfast.

Surprises around every corner

What surprised me most about Carden Park was the sheer volume of facilities on site. Beyond the golf courses, clubhouse, and gym, the estate features an outdoor pursuits centre packed with activities like a driving range, a rock climbing wall, and a mini high-ropes experience (Vertigo at Carden). They even have a vineyard on site, and guests can go on a wine tour to learn about their Carden Estate Reserve English sparkling wine.

Before leaving, we took a stroll around the grounds. The estate doubles as a beautifully presented outdoor art gallery, showcasing a collection of statues and artwork scattered throughout the landscape.

Who is Carden Park perfect for?

Carden Park is a destination that suits lots of different people for different reasons and occasions because of its vast range of experiences.

• Groups and girls' weekends: It is an incredible spot for a girls' weekend or group getaway. I'd highly recommend looking out for a ladies-only spa evening or morning experience.
• Couples: The romantic atmosphere makes it a lovely destination for a couples' retreat. Lounging in the pools on a twilight experience would be absolutely amazing.
• Families and special days: Whether you are booking a luxury mother-and-daughter spa day, a family staycation, or a golf break, there is so much to do that everyone will find their perfect escape.

With its mix of opulence, nature, and endless activities, Carden Park is a world-class countryside haven that I cannot recommend highly enough.
