In a luxury manor house built in the 17th century, romantics and wellness enthusiasts can discover a world of wellbeing in the Hampshire countryside.
Read full postPreceding 1664, Farnham Estate Spa and Golf Resort was originally named Dromellan Castle and was owned by The Waldrons who were forced to sell it to pay debts. Bought by the Bishop Robert Maxwell, it has since remained in the Maxwell family for more than 300 years. Today the 16th century estate continues to be proud of its history with original features still intact but with modern and contemporary updates carefully considered throughout. Rooms are split between the original house and a contemporary new wing, but wherever you stay the same standard of excellence applies.
“The Wine Goose Cellar Bar celebrate’s Ireland’s centuries old wine trade…”
As early as the 1760s, Farnham Estate began to experiment with agriculture and science to grow its own produce in the most advanced manner. Today, the restaurants remain true to that history with a strong commitment to both excellence and sustainability. As a result, The Botanica Restaurant is suitably named for its commitment to local, seasonal produce and the Irish botanical world, while the Wine Goose Cellar Bar celebrate’s Ireland’s centuries old wine trade and is named for the ‘Winegeese’ - the name given to the emigrant Irish families who, from the 17th century onwards, engaged in the wine trade in the various countries that they adopted.
In a supremely contemporary building within the estate, the spa takes advantage of its location with lots of glass throughout so you can take in the view as you swim in the pool. Superbly luxurious (naturally), it is an adult only space with a beautiful infinity pool, a water mint thermal suite, an aroma steam bath, snail showers, a Kneipp walk a Finnish sauna, ice fountain and a reflexology foot basin.
“Roam in rural bliss and dream of the 1600s”
The grounds really are such an important part of your visit - a chance to roam in rural bliss and dream of the 1600s. Walk, jog, or borrow a bicycle while you’re here, and explore the nature trails that have been laid out, surrounded by trees and ivy, branches and moss, swans and songbirds, rabbits and hares, solitude and tranquillity.
Perfect for a peaceful romantic holiday, Farnham Estate Spa and Golf Resort is a destination that’s filled with integrity as well as luxury. There’s a strong sense of past as well as a forward thinking commitment to the environment and its surroundings, ensuring its ongoing beauty.
