Taking part in the Miles for MS Challenge

The Spabreaks.com team is supporting World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day on 30th May - how about you?

This year, 30th May marks World Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Day with the MS Trust. The day seeks to raise awareness and funds to support people around the world living with MS with an accessible challenge. As a team that seeks to support multiple charities throughout the year, it's an occasion that our office in Brighton are looking forward to contributing to.

What is MS?

  • MS is a disease affecting the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord).
  • It’s estimated that 130,000 people in the UK have MS.
  • Every week around 130 more people are diagnosed.
  • It’s nearly three times more common in women than in men.
  • Most people are diagnosed in their twenties and thirties but it can be diagnosed in younger and older people.
  • MS isn’t infectious or contagious so you can’t catch it or pass it on to other people.
  • MS is the most common condition of the central nervous system affecting young adults.
  • MS is a lifelong condition but it is not a terminal illness.
  • Everyone's MS experience is different so no two people will have the same range and severity of symptoms, even if they are closely related.
  • MS is not inherited, but family members do have a slightly higher risk of developing MS.

What is the Miles for MS Challenge?

The Miles for MS Challenge is designed to get you moving in your own way, whether it's wheeling, walking, scooting, running, cycling, e-biking, swimming cross training or anything else. You decide when, where, how and how far you go. The only prerequisite is that you have a good time doing it. You can register with the Miles for MS Challenge via their website and if you raise over £10 then you get a free t-shirt.

How is Spabreaks.com taking part?

We are planning to set up a Strava Group Challenge for anyone to join in which it will track and add your miles to our total target which will be 588 miles. This is the distance from our Brighton office to one of our lovely hotels – The Golf View Hotel in Scotland. We have set up a JustGiving page and all funds raised will got to the Multiple Sclerosis Trust.

Whether it’s a short walk to the shops or work, a weekend run or a gym workout – every effort adds to the challenge! It doesn’t matter how many miles one individual does - it's about working together towards our goal.

When is the challenge taking place?

The Spabreaks.com team will start the challenge on 13th May and finish it on 31st May 2024.

What is Strava?

Strava is an app where you can track your activity (whatever it is). You can connect it to your device such as an apple watch OR you can manually add in your activities. Signing up is easy, all you need to do is download the Strava app in the iOS / Google store, sign up using your personal email address and you’re ready to go!

Who can donate and how?

Anyone and everyone can donate by heading to our JustGiving page. All support is appreciated – every little helps.
