TheraJet at East Sussex National Golf Resort & Spa: A modern take on massage

For the benefits of a massage when you don’t necessarily have the time for a hands-on treatment, the TheraJet experience at East Sussex National is well worth discovering, as Spabreaks.com’s Product Manager, Fiona, explains.

An innovative take on massage, TheraJet is effectively a type of massage chair but taken to new heights, and my partner and I were invited to try it on a stay at East Sussex National Golf Resort & Spa. A non-invasive, touchless approach to massage, unlike a traditional therapy you remain fully clothed while laying down and from within the chair powerful jets of warm water move to create the massage effect. Designed to relax muscles, improve circulation, reduce stress, and support overall wellbeing, they claim that just 20 minutes on the bed can feel like the equivalent of a 50-minute massage.

My personal feeling is that it’s not so much an equivalent, but a great addition to the wellbeing experience, especially if you want to add another, cost-effective treatment to your stay, if you don’t like to be touched, or if you want a quick massage after a workout. In essence, it’s more treatment time, which is always a good idea!

The TherJet experience

The treatment itself is customisable. You can target specific areas - your feet, back, neck, or head - or opt for a full-body session where the jets travel rhythmically up and down. Pressure levels can be adjusted from gentle to intense; I chose a comfortable middle setting, which struck the perfect balance between relaxing and effective.

What really stood out is how effortlessly it fits into a spa day. You can simply lie back under a weighted blanket and relax. In my case, I even read a book while having the treatment - something you’d never be able to do during a traditional massage. It felt indulgent, restorative, and surprisingly productive all at once.

Despite the lack of human touch, I came away genuinely feeling like I’d had a massage.

Who it’s perfect for

TheraJet is ideal if:

  • You don’t enjoy being touched or are new to spa treatments
  • You’re short on time (sessions can be as quick as 20 minutes)
  • You want a more cost-effective way to include a treatment or additional treatment in your spa day (we have a spa package that pairs it with a rasul treatment, which is the perfect combination)
  • You’ve just finished a workout and want quick muscle recovery massage
  • It’s particularly well-suited for post-exercise recovery, and with East Sussex National’s impressive Hyrox gym facilities, it’s a great addition.

What a TheraJet massage feels like

The sensation is quite unique. At times, it felt like lying on top of a Jacuzzi, with waves of pressure moving beneath me. When the jets reached my head, it was almost like being gently rocked in the sea, which was pleasantly calming and immersive. It can be quite loud though, so wearing headphones is recommended if you want to fully switch off.

Try TheraJet as part of a spa break and maximise its value

I think getting the most out of TheraJet is really about integrating it into your wider spa day or break, and that’s really what the spa has done with some of the packages now on Spabreaks.com. In particular, the Therajet Tranquillity Spa, Rhassoul Ritual and Cream Tea Spa Day or the Therajet Tranquillity Spa and Rhassoul Retreat. The mud treatment is the perfect therapy to combine with the massage experience, helping you extend your therapy time while maximising cost efficiency.

A note on staying at the hotel

It’s also worth mentioning that the resort itself has recently updated its bedrooms and they are amazing. Every room offers a view, and the interiors are beautifully finished. Having stayed overnight, I can honestly say they’re some of the nicest spa hotel rooms I’ve experienced.

A great addition to your spa day

I don’t think TheraJet replaces traditional massage, but it doesn’t need to either. Instead, it offers an accessible and surprisingly effective addition that fits into busy lifestyles or adds another dimension to your spa day. Whether you’re easing post-workout tension, dipping your toes into spa treatments for the first time, or simply looking for a relaxing moment amidst a busy schedule, it’s a treatment that delivers more than you’d expect in just 20 minutes.
