There’s also the beach and sea to set the scene and Portugal enjoys some of the warmest weather in Europe - more sunshine on average than California apparently, so you can top up your tan at the same time.
For a taste of Thailand without a tedious long flight, the spa at Iberostar Costa del Sol specialises in all things Thai. Stemming from Buddhist principles, the Thai therapists offer a wonderful collection of traditional treatments including the Sublime Experience Ritual consisting of a facial treatment that rids the complexion of the effects of stress, an exotic seed body peel and a luxurious “silk” wrap. Pop your hen party onto the short flight to Malaga and enjoy an Eastern spa experience not far from home alongside the high standard pools, beaches and restaurants.
Tuck yourselves away for a few days at this perfect palazzo hidden in the hills near Bologna. The Palazzo di Varignana welcomes groups such as hen parties with open arms. The spa is reached by a maze of underground tunnels adding to the secretive charm of this already luxurious venue. This 300 year old hotel is a beautiful place to watch the sun rise or set, soak up the culture - there are still visible remains of Domus and the ancient Roman city of Claterna on the site of the hotel - and enjoy Italian gastronomy at its best.
So where in Europe can you take a bet on their being a little sunshine, whatever time of the year? The Canary Islands! Get the girls on a plane and head for the Vincci Seleccion La Plantacion del Sur in the south of Tenerife on the Costa Adaje. The Nammu Spa here is the focal point for relaxation encompassing an outdoor thalassa pool which forms one of three thermal circuits. Outside there are tropical gardens, lots of space, tennis courts, five outdoor pools, as well as the sea and a top golf course nearby. Meanwhile, when it comes to dining, there is an international buffet with themed evenings, international and Mediterranean food served in the poolside restaurant, a grill a la carte and canarian a la carte using locally sourced products.
