Read full postThis autumn and winter we are all making up for lost getaways over the course of the year, and there’s a new premium on beautiful outdoor spaces to spend time in. Wrap up warm with scarves and gloves, pop on a coat and head out into the fresh air before taking time to relax in the the spa. One of our favourite destinations for the season is Cheshire spa, Shrigley Hall…
Built in 1825 as the family home of William Turner MP, Shrigley Hall Hotel is a four-star getaway. It welcomes families as well as couples, while its vast amount of space and warm atmosphere makes it an excellent group getaway destination as well. Whether you’re visiting for a special occasion or simply just because however, this Cheshire spa has something for everyone.
Taking its name from the De Shrigleys, the hall was passed down by marriage to the Downes family in the 14th century who resided on the estate for over 300 years. Having been sold to the former MP for Blackburn in the 1800s, it has had its fair share of scandal since then, but became a hotel in the 1980s - which is something we’re all thankful for.
One of the most charming attributes of the hotel is that it’s set in 262 acres of beautiful Cheshire countryside in the picturesque Peak District. While there’s much to celebrate inside - the spa, the restaurants and the accommodation, the grounds and gardens are a standout feature that really offer something extra as part of the experience. Whether it’s leisurely summer strolls or crisp autumn/winter ones, the chance to take in the air and really take in the beauty of the estate is a treat.
Of course, lots of guests at the hotel are also drawn to its 18-hole golf course. The par-71 course was designed by celebrated architect Donald Steel and enjoys some of the finest views of any course in the North West. Its well draining nature ensures year round playability, while the layout weaves its way through woodland and parkland and is a real challenge for even the most experienced golfers. You can also hire a buggy, club and shoes if needed.
