Setting the tone for your stay
The moment you pull up at Burnham Beeches Hotel & Spa, an elegant 18th-century Georgian manor house built in 1727, you are immediately enveloped by a sense of peace. Nestled within 10 acres of gardens and royal hunting grounds in the Buckinghamshire countryside, it is a pretty, intimate hotel that focuses on tranquil experiences and an easy going atmosphere.
The arrival process blends modern convenience with classic, attentive service. You check yourself in using an iPad at reception, but the traditional hospitality remains fully intact with staff showing you to your room and carrying your bag.
A suite experience
Taking a solo spa break here proved to be a really charming relaxing escape, especially after being upgraded to a suite - an option I highly recommend. The bedroom was a gorgeous, heritage-style space that felt historic but also cosy, anchored by a massive four-poster bed. The bathroom was equally impressive, with a spacious layout that added a real touch of luxury to a private space.
Boutique leisure experiences and exceptional therapies
The hotel is, unsurprisingly, popular for weddings and also has excellent conference rooms, but all the while maintains its sense of boutique style.
In the Soul Spa it’s not about the volume of facilities, but the quiet and considered approach. The leisure space features a classic indoor swimming pool and Jacuzzi, thoughtfully arranged with a couple of loungers along the side so you can relax and read a book. Everything feels well cared for, particularly the sauna and steam room which have been added to the hotel more recently.
In my opinion, the treatments are where the spa truly shines. I had a full-body massage using TEMPLESPA products, and it was perfect. The therapist was exceptional - she made me feel completely at ease - while the treatment room was beautifully presented, complete with its own bath and generous proportions.
Charming grounds and legendary woodland
Stepping outside, the grounds were incredibly pretty. Directly next to the hotel sits the famous Burnham Beeches woodland. The woodland wonderland has proved popular not only with visitors, but as the inspiring backdrop for major films, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and The Princess Bride. It is a spectacular landscape to wander through, and for those looking to explore a bit further, the historic town of Windsor is just a stone’s throw away.
Delectable brasserie dining
Dinner is hosted in a space that feels like an intimate, vibrant brasserie. The waiters were friendly, attentive, and helpful when it came to recommending dishes.
I started the evening with a glass of Pimms (a personal favourite), which had plenty of fresh fruit, and then I took the team’s recommendations for my meal, starting with a flavourful chorizo and red pepper soup followed by a classic fish and chips, served in comforting pub style.
For dessert I was unable to choose between two options, so I asked the staff to surprise me. They kindly brought out both options - the first was a dramatic chocolate bomb, melted tableside with hot chocolate poured over it, and the second was a delicious strawberry cheesecake.
Perfect for a restful retreat
If I was to sum up my visit, I would say that Burnham Beeches Hotel & Spa is perfect for a gentle, deeply relaxing getaway, ideally suited those looking to combine a peaceful, intimate spa experience with a wider set of activities, like exploring the pretty estate grounds, walking in the adjacent woodland, or visiting Windsor. If you are looking for a boutique, countryside escape that delivers exceptional treatments, charming history, and friendly service, this is a real hidden gem that’s a ticket to quiet time out.
