The history
Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa sits on an estate that was formerly part of 1,000 acres gifted to Arbroath Abbey by Alexander II, King of Scotland, in 1244.The impressive Scottish Baronial style at Ardoe House is typical of the time, and it was first built for the famous writer, Sir Walter Scott, whose works fired up a renewed passion for Scotland.
The scenery
This grand building is set in 30 acres of countryside which adds an impressive backdrop. With a 120 rooms, all offering a unique cosy atmosphere and most with four poster beds, it’s the kind of place to get swept up by the magic of it all.
The spa
Adding to the dramatic appearance of Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa is the contrastingly contemporary environment of the spa. The Spa Naurel is a beauty and fitness club which boasts many facilities including an indoor pool, sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, fitness suite and an extensive range of beauty and relaxation treatments, including hot stone and deep tissue massages and body wraps using Decléor and Orly Nails product lines.
The food
One of the main reasons not to leave the estate, other than the gorgeous bedrooms, expansive grounds and spa treatments, is the food. The head chef of Blair’s restaurant is passionate about using high quality ingredients from Scotland’s land and sea, and promotes a farm to fork ethos. Soapies lounge bar is a slightly less opulent affair, but still offers the farm to fork ethos in a more relaxing environment. There are also two bars meanwhile, in the form of the Drawing Room and Lairds Bar, both of which offer light bites.
The location
Just three miles from Aberdeen, if you do find yourself leaving the grounds of Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa, you haven’t got far to go for entertainment. The spa hotel is a stone’s throw from Blairs Museum and it’s within six miles of Academy and Duthie Park Winter Gardens. Gordon Highlanders Museum and Aberdeen Music Hall are also a similar distance with many art galleries nearby too, so you can really enjoy a multi-faceted break.
