Over the last couple of weeks we have spoken a lot about the launch of our Safe Hands for Cancer initiative.
Cancer and the spa experience is something that we have always spoken a lot about and been passionate about, and while it’s always been personal, and we have been touched by the stories that others have shared with us as well, in the last couple of years it became even more so when we lost one of our own. So we wanted to tell you a little more about our beloved colleague, Lang, whose vibrant memory we continue to dedicate our work to, especially when championing the needs of our spa guests with cancer.
Many colleagues have friends and family who have had cancer. Some have survived and some have not. Our own, dear colleague, Lang, who had been with Spabreaks.com since it first began, was one of the people we lost to cancer in 2019, shortly after his 40th birthday.
Lang had been the biggest champion of every member of the team, the management and our clients at Spabreaks.com, especially those in need of a little extra TLC. If you have been a client of Spabreaks.com for a few years, you may well have spoken to Lang on the phone or by email, and no doubt you will have been lifted by his vibrant energy and enthusiasm.
We all have our favourite memories of Lang, a flamboyant character whose larger than life personality filled a room and always lifted everyone up. An inspiring team leader, his energy was always infectious, while his knowledge and passion for what we do at Spabreaks.com was unsurpassed.
When asked about his ideal day for the blog way back in 2011, he said:
“It would definitely be a spa day, starting with a body scrub for an hour; then have a ninety minute traditional Thai massage to completely relax. This would obviously build up my appetite so I would have a nice, hot Vietnamese spicy noodle soup! Then I would chill out in the relaxation lounge listening to some cool RnB music and then later on make my way to the sauna and steam … I would then like to have an hour long facial to get rid of the excess oil in my skin and make it look refreshed and totally clean and spotless, and of course not forgetting having my feet massaged while having my facial … and my hands!”
Always one for getting straight to the point, when asked how to get the most out of a spa day his resounding words of wisdom were:
“Make sure you are in a good mood before you head to your spa day, otherwise you will never relax … after all, with all those treatments lined up, what’s not to be happy about?!”
We miss him daily, but more than a year on, he is still very much a part of the spirit of the team at Spabreaks.com, and always in our thoughts as we work to improve, enhance spa experiences for anyone being treated for, living with or recovering from cancer.
It is to Lang that we dedicate our Safe Hands initiative, always striving to commemorate his effusive and eternally positive attitude to life.
