Read full postEvery city break needs a little R&R to counterbalance the buzz. Amidst the hum of cultural interest around Birmingham, Park Regis Birmingham is a cool, calm and contemporary hotel to base yourself at, for hen parties and getaways with friends. The hotel’s Shakina Urban Spa is all about good old fashioned girly pampering (or manly pampering of course). There are four treatment rooms (including a double room if you want to have a natter during your massage), a relaxation room and a nail bar. Just what you need before a night out.
This is a totally different wellbeing experience to your standard spa and it’s bound to knock your socks off. This really is about mind, body and soul healing with no gimmicks. Stourview Cottage is a luxurious cottage surrounded by a little collection of accommodation including The ‘Shirehouse’ Log Cabin, The Garden Suite and the Green Room - all of which have their own unique character. Food is local and organic, there’s no bar so it’s BYOB while they supply the vintage crockery. There’s an outdoor hot tub, oodles of space to walk and cycle and a couple of treatments for holistic therapies. Good, old fashioned bliss!
WOW, WOW, WOW is all we can say about the views at this little cracker! In north Wales, the spa at Lake Vyrnwy Hotel is famed for its impressive spa pool views, and they don’t stop there. All the surrounding area is postcard-worthy and definitely something to write home about.

Hertfordshire is a wonderfully convenient escape for anyone in London thanks to its accessibility by road and public transport. It’s ideal for a day trip or a weekend getaway, and Needham House Hotel and Spa is a family friendly destination with contemporary design and a number of unique facilities to enjoy. There’s a hammam in the spa and an open kitchen in the restaurant for a little bit of theatre with your meal.
Featuring dramatic Elizabethan architecture and delightful historic details including ‘secret’ archways and stone towers that indicate Boringdon Hall’s history that goes back to the year 956. This Grade I listed manor house is surrounded by the beauty of South Devon and has a unique spa experience to complete the picture. Opening this year, the Gaia Spa makes the most of the location. It’s all about natural wellbeing inspired by earth goddess Gaia. Can you imagine anything better than an infinity pool on the edge of Dartmoor? No, us neither!
Having re-opened last month following extensive renovation after a fire damaged this beautiful destination, Kenwick Park is now back and better than ever. The ClubSpa@Kenwick is a favourite with groups because of the unique lodge accommodation it offers on the estate. Cool, calm and contemporary, it has a 20-metre pool, an outdoor hydrotherapy pool, a spa pool, a poolside thermal suite, two exercise studios with more than 60 fitness and relaxation classes, a state of the art gym, all-weather tennis courts, relaxation lounges, and its own eatery for light bites, drinks and snacks.
With history dating back to the 16th century, there’s plenty to find out about the hotel during your visit, with mentions of Sirs, Lairds, and nobles galore at Barony Castle. The restaurant comes highly recommended, while the spa itself is the cherry on top of a gloriously peaceful location.
You want decadence? We can show you decadence. Le Kalon Spa at The Bentley London Hotel is a five star destination in Kensington with marble bathrooms, high ceilings and elegantly appointed bedrooms. The spa is again awash with marble and intricate, hand painted walls to add to that sense of luxury. It’s small, but my goodness it’s perfectly formed.
Part of the Reynolds Fitness collection of spa destinations, this is the retreat to go on to feel fit and get in shape. The day spa is located in a Georgian building and has all the lovely architectural features that go with that. There’s also a collection of fitness facilities and treatments to relax in after you’ve worked out. Not only that, but the brand has branches in Sittingbourne and Rainham - let’s get physical!

In 25 acres of Scottish countryside, this Jacobean mansion started life as a family home, but thankfully today it welcomes guests from far and wide. It’s about escapism in fairytale surroundings while the spa is only open to adults aged 16 and over. The food in all areas of the hotel is highly recommended, but the spa also has its own dining area for lunch amidst the pampering harmony. You choose between a light snack or a freshly made cake before that treatment.
Close to the boutique shopping haven of Chester, Llyndir Hall is part of the Best Western family of hotels and is a country house in five acres of landscaped gardens. It’s within easy reach of a number of golf courses for those who are interested, while the spa has a reputation for its high standards. Can we point you in the direction of a hot seaweed wrap?
