When it comes to skincare products, many people adopt personal favourites they like to use all year round. However, it’s essential to use the right products for the right season. If you want your skin to look the best it can, you need to adapt to the time of year.
During the colder months the weather plays a big part in our skin. There is less moisture in the air which means less moisture for our skin, combine this with blustering winds and you’ve got yourself dry, itchy skin. In order to combat it, we recommend swapping your usual moisturiser as part of your autumn skincare routine, and replacing it with a heavier one containing more hydrating properties. If you have especially oily skin, try using your usual moisturiser and adopt a heavier one specifically for the drier parts of your face.
To avoid dry, dehydrated skin, you should exfoliate once to twice a week. Exfoliating will remove the dead skin cells and dry layers to avoid the appearance of rough, tired skin. This will reveal new healthier skin cells, which, in turn, will give you a refreshed glow. With the dead cells gone your skin can now properly absorb any moisturising products applied, and ensure you’re getting the benefit of your beauty routine. We recommend a full body scrub to remove dead and flaky skin, not only from your face but also the rest of your body. Of course, for an extra treat, a body scrub or facial spa treatment is a good way to get an autumn skincare boost.
Don’t think that make-up can’t also be part of your skincare routine. The autumn and winter months often leave your skin looking dull and lifeless, but you can help to combat that effect with a few tweaks to your make-up products. Use a hydrating primer to ensure a solid base and to add a glow to brighten the skin when it’s looking a little lacklustre. When it comes to foundation, bronzer and blushes, swap your powders for liquid products to avoid a flaky look. Also, steer clear of dry, matte lipsticks as they will encourage chapped lips. Instead opt for creamy lip products with a sheen finish, or even better adopt a tinted lip balm.
If your skin is dry all year round, then the colder months can be even trickier for you. If a heavier moisturiser and increased exfoliation still isn’t cutting it (or even if it us but you want to treat your skin), try a hydrating facial to help put moisture back into the skin. Of course, you can do this at home or at a spa - naturally we would recommend the latter as a preferred treat, but a little spa at home is also a wondrous thing.
When the winter chill really sets in, lots of us know what a relief a few hours in a thermal suite can be, easing muscles and allowing you to feel warm after the cold gets into your bones. However, it’s not always remembered how beneficial a true thermal experience can be for autumn and winter skincare as well. The range of temperatures are great for opening pores and cleansing skin or daily grime and dead skin cells. It also helps to rejuvenate the skin, boosting skin cells and promoting healthy cells.
