What the Spabreaks.com team thought of a spa break at Whittlebury Hall

Whittlebury Hall is a playground of rest and relaxation, whether your idea of a good time is all day in the spa, on the golf course, or partying the night away. Here's what Customer Experience Executive Amy, and Digital Marketing Apprentice Nilesh thought.

The drive up to Whittlebury Hall is instantly impressive - the grounds are lovely and the hotel has a very grand exterior. Immediately you have a sense of how spacious everything is, and you can automatically see why it would be a great place to visit with a group of friends, even if you all have different ideas about how you want to relax.

Gorgeous spa grounds

Whittlebury Hall is set in more than 700 acres of parkland in rural Northamptonshire, so you could quite happily set out and walk all day long and still have more to explore. When we visited, the sun was shining and a walk was the perfect way to settle into our stay after the drive, wandering around the lake and taking in some of the 36-hole championship golf course.

Wining and dining

When it comes to food, options are very much on the menu. Astons is their more relaxed restaurant, which is open for all meals, and that's where we ate. The quality of the food is great and it's got a really warm atmosphere. If you're here for special occasions there's also Murrays for dine dining (it has three AA Rosettes). The Atrium Bistro is the clubhouse option, and the Silverstone Bar is great for pre- or post dinner drinks - named after the racecourse next door and decorated with motor racing memorabilia, which is a definite talking point!

Space to relax

Rooms and suites at the hotel are modern, and, like everything else at this hotel, incredibly spacious. There are 254 to choose from, including doubles, twins, and triple occupancy rooms as well, so once again it became clear that if you're visiting with a group of friends it's ideal. We highly recommend upgrading your room to a suite which doesn't cost much more but adds more space as well as details that add that extra touch of luxury - like a Jacuzzi bath.

A world of wellbeing

The spa is really the centrepiece of the hotel. There are so many facilities you could happily spend all day there. There is a general wellbeing area, which includes a gym, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi, but it's the enormous Day Spa with its all-encompassing Heat and Ice Experience that is really unique. It includes a whole suite of thermal experiences including an aromatherapy crystal steam, caldarium, experience showers, foot spas, a hydrotherapy pool, ice cave, roman salt steam, sanarium and tepidarium. With so much to try it's a great place for first-time spa goers to get a real sense of what's possible on a spa break.

Treatments galore

For treatments, there are 23 treatment rooms where therapists use ESPA and Elemis products in a whole collection of treatments. There’s also a dedicated Light Salon offering LED light treatment facials, which is something really different. We both had a treatment and it was excellent, so definitely make sure you include one in your getaway!
