Why it works … Decléor Slim Effects Treatment

No matter how healthy you are, water retention and bloating can always prove a problem, making Decléor’s Slim Effects Treatment particularly appealing, as Sir Christopher Wren Hotel’s Head Therapist, Holly Miller explains …

What does the Slim Effect treatment involve?

It’s a one hour treatment which starts with an exfoliation using fruit seeds and apricot kernels on the thighs, buttocks and stomach areas.  We then rinse that off with hot mitts and do a massage with Decléor’s Slim Effects Balm.  We then apply a mask with a high concentration of essential oils including grapefruit, basil and hyssop, and wrap the client up in a sheet for ten minutes - while that works we do a foot massage before the guest showers and to finish we apply a Slim Effects Gel.

Where does it come from?

The treatment has been created by Decléor, but the essential oil ingredients which are so effective are from all over the world and have been used historically - grapefruit is key because of its skin-toning and detoxifying properties.

What is it supposed to do?

It is a very good treatment for detox and to kick start a healthy diet or slimming routine - you are estimated to lose around 0.5 cm per treatment.  The grapefruit helps to reduce water retention and firm the skin, while rosemary stimulates and purifies.  Ginger and pepper have a warming effect which helps to activate circulation, while caffeine flushes the toxins from the body.  The combination of these essential oils filter and reduce fatty deposits and cellulite.

Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?

It is quite a self-contained treatment, but we can offer a less abrasive exfoliant to any clients who prefer a gentler exfoliation.  We also recommend for a continuation of the spa experience at home using a Decléor Slim Effects Localised Contouring Gel-Cream, Slim Effects Draining Contouring Serum and Slim Effects Balm.

Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?

Detox treatments are like going on a full programme - so I would recommend starting your detox at the start of that day - have a light breakfast and make sure you are well hydrated.  Afterwards try to eat clean foods such as salad and fish and avoid very heavy meals.  Drink lots of water and add lemon to your water as well because it’s very cleansing.  You should also try to avoid alcohol and caffeine for the day as they put a lot of pressure on the liver.  For the best results I would also recommend doing the treatment in a series of three or four - one a week.

Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?

It’s very good for new mums (after they have finished breast feeding) and anyone who suffers from water retention and bloating.  It is also good if you are trying to kick start a weight-loss or fitness programme, or if you have lost a lot of weight and are looking to firm up your skin.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?

Pregnant women, and anyone who is breast-feeding should avoid it.  It is also not suitable for anyone with cuts, open wounds or infectious skin conditions.  If you are currently suffering from cancer it is best to avoid it because the aromatherapy oils are very strong, unless you have finished treatment - nonetheless we always advise that you check with your doctor first.   It is not advised that anyone suffering from nut allergies has this treatment either as most Decléor products have an almond base.
