Why it Works … ESPA Detoxifying Algae Wrap

Targeting cellulite, inch-loss, and boosting circulation, Oulton Hall explains why all you really need to keep your skin glowing in the winter is a little algae…

What exactly is the Detoxifying Algae Wrap?

It’s a one hour treatment with a five minute consultation at the beginning, and then starting with a skin brush and exfoliation to speed up circulation and remove dead skin cells to allow the products to work better.  We then apply the wrap, which is a warmed algae gel, and wrap you up in a foil blanket with warm towels over the top.  That stays on for 15 minutes while we do a scalp massage.  The client then showers off the remaining product and we spritz the body with the Body Silk Spray which is a dry based oil, to finish.

Where does it come from?

It’s an ESPA treatment, we use their detoxifying salt scrub and the ESPA algae gel which is 99-100% natural and comes from their Somerset-based factory.  The three main components are always marine, aromatherapy, and plant extracts.

What is it supposed to do?

It will help to remove any toxins from the body, it’s great for helping with jetlag or if you have been travelling a lot.  The algae is also really good for cellulite and speeding up circulation.

Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?

It depends on the client and their needs, so if they have a specific area of concern, like cellulite, then we will focus on that – perhaps applying the gel in upwards movements to really boost circulation.  We also add warm towels over the top of the wrap to make the treatment more comfortable.  When we do the scalp massage we place damp cotton pads with ESPA Soothing Eye Lotion on the client’s eyelids, with a lavender eye pillow over the top.

Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?

We don’t advise having alcohol for 24 hours before or after, and drink plenty of water to help remove toxins and avoid headaches.  Try not to shower afterwards either as you have had a shower in the treatment and the dry oil will really make you glow and keep the skin hydrated.

Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?

It’s great in this post-indulgent January time, and it’s ideal for inch-loss if you have a course of treatments. It’s particularly good for dry and dehydrated skin, and also cellulite.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?

It isn’t for anyone who is pregnant, or who has high blood pressure, heart conditions, or serious illnesses.
