Central to White Calm Retreats’ women’s wellness programmes is the experience of Dr Amalia, a doctor with specialist expertise in bioidentical hormones and co-founder of The London Hormone Clinic.
Having trained with celebrated hormone expert, Dr Marion Gluk, Dr Amalia works with women of all ages from menopausal women to younger women with endometriosis: “hormone balance has become a rife problem and we’re seeing more and more of it”, she says.
Her work is to help restore hormonal balance, and help clients to live life well, with her central focus on the use of bioidentical hormones, which Dr Amalia simply describes as “more ‘natural’ hormones instead of synthetic ones. Bioidentical means body identical. They are more gentle and can be tailored for the individual.”
“It’s about making women aware, because there’s so much information out there it’s very difficult to know what’s good and what’s true”
Helping to demystify and personalise the approach to all hormonal concerns, but in particular in this instance, the way menopause is handled, Dr Amalia says: “my take is looking at wellness, because around menopause if hormones aren’t balanced it affects your energy, your drive and your sexual function. I think women have become disassociated from their sexuality because they have become so busy, and that is where Kalindi and other members of the White Calm Retreat team can really help.”
“My role is to help with the hormonal side of things, because if you don’t sort out your hormones, then the other elements of the retreats are going to struggle to have the right impact. It’s also about making women aware, because there’s so much information out there it’s very difficult to know what’s good and what’s true because for every positive story about a course of action, there’s a negative one too.”
The Women’s Wellness White Calm Retreats are a bit of a road map for whichever part of the menopause journey the individual is on. Dr Amalia brings in a workshop, a lecture on what bioidentical hormones are and then there’s a one-to-one to make an individual plan, to see if that is a route the client wants to look at once they have more information.”
“a week after starting treatment, the morning stomach knots unravelled and I began to get my energy back”
In The Daily Mail journalist Liz Stout explains the impact that the onset of menopause had on her mind, body and her ability to function. She talks candidly about the insidiousness of her symptoms, which were repeatedly diagnosed as depression, before finding Dr Amalia who recognised the early symptoms of menopause and prescribed a low dose of bioidentical progesterone cream. She said: “a week after starting treatment, the morning stomach knots unravelled and I began to get my energy back.”
Dr Amalia is keen to highlight that everyone’s experience of the menopause is different, but with the right information, it’s about finding the right solution for you whilst having an enjoyable and healthy life.
