Spas for cosy and stylish winter wellness
From poolside fireplaces to candlelit thermal suites, and heated outdoor pools, could your next winter warmer be more luxurious than a cup of cocoa?
Read full postThe Duchesses of Sussex and Cambridge have brought a new image to royalty and aristocracy. They’ve given it a glamorous, empowered vision of the future. So to embrace your inner lord and ladyship, Ellenborough Park has designed a lord and lady spa break for the modern man and woman.
On the outskirts of Cheltenham, Ellenborough Park is a 15th century manor house. It has retained its beams, intricate details and grand finishes to give it a sense of old world romance. However, the addition of carefully chosen furnishings and deep velvet sofas under high ceilings and ornate paintings gives it a sense of plush modern grandeur as well.
It is a style that extends into the bedrooms, which are up winding corridors, as is the nature of historic buildings. It’s absolutely worth spending time sitting with a cup of tea or a glass of wine, looking out of the lead-framed windows onto the vast stretches of manicured gardens and grounds beyond.
The spa is small but perfectly formed, sitting in a separate building to the hotel just a 30 second walk away. It’s woven amongst heavy Cotswold stone arches and doorways that have been given a sense of clean contemporary style with elegant finishes. The pool is outside but heated to bath temperature. Inside it’s all about cosy nooks and crannies that couples and small groups can gather in to gossip. It’s the sort of place that makes you feel as though you have been enveloped in a hug that you never want to get out of.
The food is also a real treat at this hotel. Dinner in particular is an elaborate affair. It’s all very carefully presented and quite formal but with good sized portions. It’s all very much the type of food you’ll want to Instagram. Plenty of opportunity for food envy and every inch the type of experience that’s appropriate for a celebration.
The Lord and Lady spa break is a beautiful fusion of wellness and decadence. It reflects the best of the destination itself, but is also a perfect example of what a spa break should be.
Complete with the healing powers of a 55-minute treatment - a Seaweed Wrap - perfect for detox, and soothing the mind, body and soul. Spend all day in the spa, then treat yourself to afternoon tea and English sparkling wine. Top it off with a five course dinner for the ultimate in quality time with someone you love.
After all, wellness in all its multifaceted glory is surely about life’s feel-good factor.
