Read full postNew to Spabreaks.com this summer, No.1 by GuestHouse York is a stylish hotel and spa combining modern hospitality with just the right amount of heritage and grandeur. For the most stylish of summer getaways, here's a little peak at this charming retreat.
Set in a Grade II Listed Regency townhouse, No.1 by GuestHouse York invites you in through an ivy-clad front entrance leading to a grant interior complete with a sweeping central staircase , high ceilings and large sash windows. With just 39 rooms and suites, there's an intimacy to the hotel which makes it perfect for romantic getaways.
Food and drink at the hotel provide something for every time of the day, whether it's a three-course dinner or sharing platters and craft snacks. Almost everything is from nearby farms, dairies and hives, and drinks are creative, ranging from local brews to cocktails. In a quirky twist, the bar celebrates Yorkshire's heritage with a steam train running along the cornice.
The spa at No.1 by GuestHouse York has a rustic/luxe vibe to it thanks to the combination of warm colours, exposed brick and copper details. It's a small space dedicated to pampering and relaxation, so there are no wet facilities like a sauna or pool, but there is a relaxation room and five treatment rooms. The spa has clearly chosen its treatments carefully, opting for the Pinks Boutique product line, which is known for its pure, vegan, organic, sustainably-led and ethically-sourced ingredients. You might have read our wellness interview with Pinks Boutique founder, Kirstie Sherriff.
In addition to its own charms, No. 1 York is in a wonderful position for exploring the picturesque city of York. The famously beautiful walled city was founded by the ancient Romans and is a feast of magnificent architecture, hospitable experiences, culture and things to do. It's also surrounded by spectacular natural landscapes.
