Why deep listening is making sound waves in wellbeing
In a noisy world, how can you take a moment to be fully present, and hear your own thoughts (or maybe silencing them)? Deep listening is one of the spa trends to watch.
Read full postWe know that having a relaxing, moisturising, exfoliating treatment is good for us, but what we really want is to be able to see instant results. Whittlebury Hall’s Executive Therapist Jodie Bushell tells us all about the perfect pre-party treatment and how to make the results last!
What does the Visible Brilliance Facial involve?
The treatment lasts for an hour and fifteen minutes using Elemis products, and starts with a welcome touch and some deep breathing to relax the guest and make them feel comfortable using pressure points on the feet to stretch the spine which encourages deep relaxation. We then do an eye and facial cleanse to remove any make-up with warm mitts, and do a visual consultation - at this point we ask about any skin concerns so we know how the guest wants to benefit from the treatment. We then do a face and décolleté massage with Skin Bliss Recovery Capsules - either with rose for dry skin or lavender for oily and combination skin. There is then an exfoliation with a Papaya Enzyme Peel followed by toning and the first set of masks using Visible Brilliance Serum and a peel-off mask as well as cotton pads on the eyes with a soothing toner and a lavender pillow. While it works we do a scalp massage. After taking the peel off, we use a heated lavender compress and a second mask while the guest has a hand and arm massage using warm frangipane oil, and a hand mask. We then cleanse and tone again using rosewood oils this time and use a Pro-Collagen Eye Renewal cream around the eyes and lip areas before applying the Visible Brilliance Serum again, and a Pro-Collagen Marine Cream moisturiser.
Where does it come from?
The treatment was developed by Elemis and uses all their products. They are a British brand using plant based products which have proven clinical results so you really know it’s going to work!
What is it supposed to do?
The different elements all play a part - the Papaya Enzyme Peel is brightening but non-abrasive, toning balances the skin pH and minimises pores - it’s a vital part of any skin routine, the second mask uses an Exotic Cream which moisturises and has been shown to improve moisture in the skin by up to 60% . The cotton pads on the eyes while the mask is working are extremely good for reducing dark circles under the eyes, and the Marine Cream moisturiser focuses on anti-ageing - the active ingredient plumps the skin and improves elasticity, while the massage elements help to detox and stretch out the body.
Is there anything you do to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment?
With all our treatments we take time to go through skin care routines with clients and recommend products that will help them to continue the good work at home.
Is there anything you recommend clients to do pre or post-treatment to get the most out of it?
Drink plenty of water and try to have regular facials every three to four weeks - this is a great kick start to improving your skin.
Is there anyone you particularly recommend the treatment for?
It is designed to brighten the skin, exfoliate, increase radiance, smooth and tone - generally bring the skin back to life, so it is great for skin that’s a little tired, but it’s fantastic if you have an event coming up or a wedding because it gives you an instant glow!
Is there anyone who shouldn’t have this treatment and why?
With Elemis the treatments can be adapted very easily so it is suitable for most people, but not for pregnant women (although oils can be changed), and for anyone suffering from cancer because of the massage element. It is also best avoided if you have sunburn, cold sores, conjunctivitis, epilepsy or any undiagnosed lumps and bumps - if in doubt, mention it to the therapist before the treatment.
