Read full postA Victorian-style country house, Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel is a tranquil hotel spa that welcomes everyone to a quiet Lancashire haven. From its pretty gardens to its luxury treatments, here are just five of the reasons we love it.
Originally a private home that dates back to Victorian England, Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel is a tale of true love that continues to this day. The property was originally developed in 1884 by Thomas Fairhurst, a successful brewer from Wigan, who built it as a sign of devotion for his bride-to-be Elizabeth Swift as a wedding present. When it was sold to Alexander Young, a local mill owner, years later, he too saw the house as the perfect gift for his new wife. Today it remains a popular destination for weddings, and with that backstory it's little wonder!
It's not just the story that makes Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel a beautiful place to visit - the historic architecture and original details also play a key part. For example, behind the red brick exterior, the four-star hotel is brimming with beautiful elements from stained glass windows to modern four-poster beds, chandeliers to marble pillars and ornate ceilings.
The spa really is a favourite feature at this hotel. Delivering treatments from Elemis, they have everything you need for modern R&R, including an indoor swimming pool, bath spa, sauna and gym, as well as a peaceful relaxation lounge.
Macdonald Kilhey Court Hotel is set in 11 acres of grounds with views of Worthington Lakes. The mature gardens set the scene for rest and relaxation, but they also provide a beautiful view over breakfast and the perfect place for a stroll, fresh air or perhaps a proposal if you're visiting with your partner?
As foodies ourselves, we're always interested in what the restaurant has to offer, and The Laureate does not disappoint. Its impressive design features opulent details including stained glass windows, and food is a feast of fancy seasonal dishes. Once you're full, head to the Burns Bar for a warming whisky (or two).
