I know, I know, your body is a temple and you wouldn’t dream of having a hangover, but just in case it happens, by accident or something, here are a few spa tips to ease the pain!

Grayshott Spa Hotel in Surrey says …

  • Have reflexology to stimulate the body and help reduce the feeling of sickness and headaches.

  • Have acupuncture to balance the body system.

  • Two key ingredients for a hangover breakfast are coconut water and eggs. Coconut water is amazing for re-hydrating cells and it contains loads of potassium. Because alcohol draws water from your body, it increases the amount you urinate. You lose a lot of potassium in the urine, and low potassium can cause many hangover symptoms. So, drink that coconut water and eat some eggs. The body needs amino acids that come from the protein in eggs to help the liver recover and to get you feeling back on track, especially as the amino acid, cysteine, helps to break down toxins in the body.

Armathwaite Hall County House and Spa in Cumbria says …

  • Take a dip in a hydro pool; it will help with aching and tired muscles.

  • Follow up with a massage (especially one from [Comfort Zone] – especially the 60-minute Monticelli Mud, which is mineral rich, healing, and restorative and acts as a complete body cleanse.  Finish with a spot of lunch, a smoothie, and a snooze!

The Malvern in Worcestershire says …

  • Start your morning with the ESPA detox bath oil to cleanse, boost the circulatory system, and Detox thanks to the purifying juniper berry and cypress which are renowned for stimulating the lymphatic system and helping to sweep away toxins, grapefruit which lifts the spirits, and sweet almond oil which nourishes the skin.

Bedford Lodge in Suffolk says …

  • To alleviate headaches put a cold compress in your head infused with peppermint or citrus oil. The aromatherapy benefits of the peppermint will alleviate the pain while the citrus fragrance will give you an extra dose of energy.

Lifehouse Spa and Hotel in Essex says …

  • Have a salt and oil scrub to sweep away toxins, followed by a massage using a detox oil such as lavender, grapefruit, cypress and juniper berry. For something more gentle and soothing try a gentle balancing treatment such as reiki or energy healing. Reflexology is beneficial for stimulating the reflex zones of the liver and kidneys and will help the body to eliminate toxins more effectively.

  • Drink warm water with ginger, lemon, and manuka honey to alkalise the body, settle the digestion, and boost the immune system.

  • Take the homeoepathic remedy Nux Vomica 30C, it’s excellent for helping hangover symptoms.

  • Drink green smoothies. Chlorophyll is the green pigment that gives plants their colour and enables them to convert solar energy into food energy. Chlorophyll acts as both a liver tonic and a liver cleanse.  (Green smoothie recipe coming up tomorrow!)
