On a sunny September day, six of us from the Spabreaks.com marketing team visited W London’s Away Spa to experience the ‘Away Spa X Comfort Zone’ package and enjoy some quality time together. After all, it’s important to practice what we preach. A unique experience that really tailors your treatments to your individual needs, it’s little wonder that this place is a celebrity favourite, and the spa day package reflects that, including a skin analysis using state-of-the-art technology, a 30-minute prescription facial, a cocktail, lunch, and access to the spa facilities. Here’s what you need to know.
W London is a beautiful, five-star hotel - it’s cool and buzzy, right in the heart of Leicester Square. It’s ideal for those who want to slot in a spa treatment into a shopping or theatre trip, and it’s got lots of glitz and glamour for those who want to ‘detox and retox’ - so their mantra goes. We were greeted by the therapists in the spa area, and given an Elixir shot (health shot) and some crystal water. We filled out some consultation forms about our lifestyles, health and skin.
After we had been given our robes and slippers, we headed off to the changing rooms which had showers, hairdryers and everything you need to freshen up pre and post spa experience. We used the facilities, which are small but chic and nicely done - key features are a modern gym that looks over the city, a sauna and a steam room. Facilities completed, we were ready for our spa treatments.
The skin analysis is done using a machine which shows skin hydration levels, wrinkles, dry areas, sun damage, pigmentation and more - it’s not as disconcerting as it sounds - it’s informative and helps the therapist to tailor the prescription facial for optimum results. The therapist talks about the areas of your skin with you and makes helpful recommendations including products from their Comfort Zone product range. The therapists were attentive and really talented - we all enjoyed a relaxing facial using the products that suited our skin. The spa offers a range of treatments specifically designed for the Away Spa by Italian brand, Comfort Zone.
In that dreamy, post-treatment state, it was perfect to be able to enjoy a cocktail in the relaxation area in the comfort of our robes and slippers. Lunch was served there too in the form of the ‘Away Spa Menu Tasting Canapés’ – a tasty selection of small dishes, which was just what we wanted after all that pampering.
So what was our conclusion? The hotel is really cool and beautiful, perfect for a girls’ trip to London, especially as the spa itself is a collection of cute and luxurious little areas. The food and cocktails were really lovely and it does feel like a luxurious treat - it’s a perfect oasis in London for a nice treatment and refresh, but I can definitely see it as being the prelude to a night out if you’re visiting for a special occasion.
We ended our team day with a drink in the hotel bar and ate dinner in the city. There is a lovely restaurant in the hotel as well as lots of places nearby, so there’s plenty to choose from and I think that’s part of the appeal for this destination. We went to Buckingham Palace on the way back to the station as it was a few days before the Queen’s funeral. The atmosphere in London was calm and patriotic and we felt pleased to be part of it. London will forever be one of my favourite cities in the world, and it lovely to visit it with the dual feelings of relaxation and excitement.
