Why It Works … Slimmeria Retreat at Hye House

The slimming market is saturated with a plethora of offerings when it

comes to weight loss, from the sublime to the ridiculous, but when Galia Grainger, founder of Slimmeria Retreat at Hye House, devised a detox diet and exercise programme that helped her lose four stone, she just couldn’t help but share it!

What makes Slimmeria different to other weight loss retreats?

I have been to bootcamps and spas and weight loss retreats, but not many places combine all three - many ignore the importance of relaxation.  Slimmeria has a bit of everything and is a fun way to lose weight and pamper a bit as well to create a balanced lifestyle.

What is the ethos behind it?

A big part of the retreat is the diet, which focuses on a vegetarian detox - there is no use just drinking juices for a week because as soon as you start chewing solids you will put on weight.  The diet cleans the digestive system, and kick starts your new lifestyle.

Why does Slimmeria work?

The most important thing we do is to put clients in the right mood where they are receptive to the diet.  Motivation and keeping positive is crucial because it makes you realise you can really do it - if you stay positive and want to change your life, you will - it’s your choice!

Is there anything extra you advise clients do to aid weight loss?

Drinking lots of water - two litres, especially before meals is very important; and so is conscious eating - not eating in front of the television or the computer, so that you stay aware of what you are putting in your body and how much.

Is there anything you recommend clients do post-retreat to get the most out of it?

When clients leave they should not stay on the same diet from the retreat alone - they should introduce proteins which we teach them about, and perhaps do a couple of days a month where they detox.

Who do you recommend Slimmeria for?

Anyone who is trapped in bad habits, if they are having health problems they want to address, or if they are tired - anyone who is simply feeling a little unhealthy!

Is there anyone you would not recommend the retreat to and why?

The retreat is not suitable for pregnant women or under eighteens, and anyone who has recently been on a juice or detox diet should check with their doctor before they come.
