Why March is about making quality time for everybody and every body
January was all about you time, February was all about spending time with someone special in your life. March, however, is about quality time for everybody and everybody.
This month is an exciting one. Spring is very much in the air, the daffodils, snowdrops and the crocuses are blooming. The days are getting longer, and the promise of warmer, lighter days hangs tantalisingly close. It’s also Mother’s Day in March, which is an emotive time offering celebration for some and a time to pause for others.
The meaning of Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day carries many different feelings with it. For some it’s a time of excitement - becoming, or having recently become, mothers for the first time. For some it’s a chance to spend time with their mum and put aside all the business of daily life. For others it’s a time of reflection and remembering a mother they have lost. And for many, it’s a time to think about, or spend time with, a motherly figure who’s not in the official role of parent, but who has always served as a source of care, valuable guidance and support.
Perhaps it is appropriate that International Women’s Day falls within the same month as Mother’s Day; a signal that says you don’t have to be someone’s biological parent to offer all encompassing love and care. Actress Kim Cattrall, perhaps most famous for her role as Samantha in Sex and the City, one told Jane Garvey on Women’s Hour:
“I am not a biological parent, but I am a parent. I have young actors and actresses that I mentor, I have nieces and nephews that I am very close to… “There is a way to become a mother in this day and age which doesn’t include your name on the child’s birth certificate. You can express that maternal side, very clearly, very strongly. It feels very satisfying.”
A spa break is about quality time for every body
With the variety of ways to care, and people we care about, being so very much on our minds this month, it also reminds us of one of our ultimate objectives within the spa world; to champion spaces for self-care for everybody and everybody.
If you have followed the Spabreaks.com journey to date, you will know that our raison d’etre has been to make the spa industry more inclusive. To show that it’s not a space for one body type, one age group, one demographic, one stage of wellness, one gender or one level of affluence.
The spa industry is a space that offers something for everyone. In particular, that has come into focus in our work to open up the spa industry to anyone with, or recovering from, cancer. We, along with other industry leaders, have pushed for a greater level of personalisation in the spa world, and this month we have some exciting news that will further improve the experiences of spa goers living with cancer.
In short, this month is about care. Self-care, caring for the people around us, spending time with them, and spending time with ourselves. It’s a time for celebrating the season in the fresh and promising spirit of spring.
