Chocolate becomes an entirely appropriate accompaniment to my first cup of tea before my backside has hit my seat in the morning, oat biscuits that were supposed to carry me through the afternoon have disappeared before lunch – it’s a poor insight into my self control.
That said, NOT having food readily available simply isn’t an option. Lunch never happens before 2pm, and it isn’t more than half an hour at my desk in the morning before I am grumbling that I am hungry (despite having had breakfast). Suffice to say, I think about food A LOT.
So there is only one solution, the things on my desk have to be healthy, and they have to have some serious filling capacity. Enter Nairn’s. The oaty brand whose savoury biscuits I have been a devotee of for quite some time (providing a non cereal based answer to that little hunger monster that Shredded Wheat used to trot out on TV), have released Muesli Breaks Oatcakes.
‘Cakes’ is a misleading term – they are biscuits. A box comes with eight packets, each containing two biscuits comprised of the aforementioned wholegrain oats as well as fruit and seeds. While they are sweet, they are definitely still breakfast worthy, and two is probably just the right number for elevenses (although let’s be honest, it is more often than not going to extend to four if I have anything to do with it).
A general office consensus (it’s important to get multiple opinions on these things, they are serious matters), is that they are a little dry, which actually works out rather well because the other thing we really like is a cup of tea – so working together that makes for a very happy morning … although not all that much work it appears.
In conclusion – hurrah for Nairn’s Muesli Breaks Oatcakes! Saving me from yet another sugar crash before midday.
