The Landmark London was built in 1899 and originally opened as the Great Central Hotel - a large courtyard with a glass roof was a particularly notable feature. It has an illustrious history - the architect was Col. Robert Edis whose previous work included the ballroom for the Prince of Wales at Sandringham, for example.

Following a number of different owners and guises across the decades, in 1988 Kentaro Abe (the real name of Japanese pop star Sen Masao) purchased the hotel and started construction work in 1989. The proposed name for the new hotel was to be the Windsor Hotel. In 1991 the building was bought by Hazama Corporation Ltd and restoration continued, and in 1993 it reopened as the Regent and was part of the Four Seasons Group. In 1995 it was bought by the Lancaster London Hotel Company and renamed the Landmark London Hotel, becoming a member of the Leading Hotels of the World in 2008.
