Galgorm Resort and Spa’s reputation precedes it, and surrounded by 163 acres of lush parkland with the spectacular River Maine flowing through the estate you get a good idea of the luxury about to greet you.
The five star hotel takes luxury to a wonderful level, combining the best of all things traditional and contemporary in suites, cottage and cabin accommodation in the original house and around the grounds. The result is that this little piece of hospitality heaven works for couples, families and groups visiting on whatever kind of break they’re after, from health retreat to decadent getaway… as long as luxury is your goal, you’re in the right place.
Unlike a lot of hotel spas, Galgorm Resort offers a spa experience that you can happily turn up for in its own right. Facilities, knowledge and experience are all in abundance, bringing together wellbeing and luxury under one roof (and in the gardens for that matter). There’s a pool, orangery, Celtic sauna, snow cabin and sanarium, as well as the River House for classes, raised on stilts and with views over the cascading River Maine (adding to that Zen feeling for your morning yoga class)… oh, and don’t forget the diamond facials. Then there are the outdoor hot tubs, and for a unique twist on things, the ‘Beltane Experience’ where you relax around a sunken fire with friends before enjoying a dip in the 12 man hot tub.
The views are inescapably part of the beauty of the experience here. In 163 acres of lush parkland (as mentioned), the river adds another level of peace and tranquility (it also makes it a wonderful location for a wedding if you’re in the market), and all generally surrounded by the natural scenery of the North Antrim Coast. The outdoor beauty is one of the reasons the outdoor spa facilities are so popular – swimming in heated pools surrounded by the tranquillity of nature (bliss!).
Wellbeing would not be complete without excellent food, and with no less than three AA Rosettes for its food, and wine to match, as well as multiple dining options, it’s quite literally a feast for the senses. The hotel’s afternoon tea is also a beautiful experience, bringing perfect flavours to the traditional indulgence and adding new twists periodically to keep you on your toes.
It’s pretty hard to find fault with Galgorm. The hotel has managed to do what few places can – they have done the spa experience as well as the hotel experience, with everything to a supremely high standard. There is no division between wellbeing and decadence, the whole thing is designed to make you feel good. Given the food available, it’s probably not the place to come for a full blown detox, but for overall, balanced feel good factor with a partner, family or friends? It’s unbeatable.
