Located on a tranquil cobbled mews in the heart of Belgravia in London, the House of Kalmar is a chic haven of holistic wellness. Enter the front door and you are enveloped in a cocoon of custom pink and purposefully formulated scents - both designed specifically for the wellbeing brand.
Founded by Karen Ruimy, a writer, dancer and spiritual healer, House of Kalmar is a day experience that focuses entirely on the treatment experiences, and is built on four 'soulstates' - Joy, Calm, Peace and Love. Revolving around the belief that life should be a balance of these four things in harmony, they are the pillars that shape the therapies, scents and products that House of Kalmar offers, and they can't be found anywhere else. Using dedicated fragrance, chakras, semi-precious stones and luxury ingredients like argan oil, plant stem cells and shea butter, therapies are either 60- or 90-minutes long. Guests have a consultation to help them choose their therapy from the four pillars:
Joy: Based on a spicy and energising blend of lemon, bergamot and ginger as well as the glowing amber stone, the Joy products and therapies invite new beginnings and fresh starts, whether it's a period of life or the dawn of a new day. This pillar is the epitome of happiness.
Calm: Using fresh, floral, soothing scents of lavender and iris, the Calm products and rituals are about harmony and peace, targeting the digestive system (or second brain), to release worry, balance your emotions at the end of the day and restore equilibrium.
Peace: Drawing on natural sedatives, moss and vetiver as well as the tranquil amethyst stone, the Peace scent is designed to ease a turbulent mind, supporting you through personal challenges. The combination of scent and treatments using Ayurvedic philosophies and elements of Shirodhara, allow you to come back to yourself.
Love: Focusing on self-love and self-acceptance, this scent and its correlating treatment is about finding as much joy, calm and peace as you can where you are right now. Meanwhile, its correlating stone is the confidence boosting ruby. Using the natural aphrodisiac fragrances of vanilla and ylang ylang, the creamy products have a light shimmer for optimum glamour, while the therapy uses rhythmic, Balinese movements to nurture creativity and self-expression.
After your treatment, there is space to change and shower before you head back into the world feeling refreshed and restored.
