From the 15th century the property was owned by the brilliantly named Lestrange family (no Harry Potter relations as far as we're aware). Over the years it was developed into the illustrious place it is today, ultimately owned by Lord Field who sold it to entertainer Danny La Rue. After a fiendish background involving divorce scandals, aristocratic ascendance and two Canadian con men, it eventually became a hotel, and is now part of the Accor Hotels group.
