- When was Woolley Grange built?
Woolley Grange was built in 1665 for Francis Randolph and his family. An imposing Jacobean manor that has been expanded over the years, Woolley Grange was under the ownership of the Baskerville family for more than 100 years. The last of the family to reside there – Henry Baskerville – was immortalised in Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, as Sir Henry Baskerville. In 1989 it was opened as a hotel, having been bought by Nigel Chapman, a London accountant who wanted to create a child-friendly hotel that didn't compromise on luxury experiences for adults.

Full length glass windows surround the indoor pool, with views over the garden. Open seasonally, the outdoor pool has wide ranging views across rolling green countryside and is a delightful place to sit on a sunny day. Other facilities include a sauna, steam room and outdoor terraces. The Spa offers ishga face and body treatments. There are a wide range of treatments including body scrubs, facials, pregnancy treatments and deep tissue massages as well as a range of children’s treatments.
Woolley Grange is part of Luxury Family Hotels group and offers 2-hours free childcare per night stay in their Ofsted registered crèche. Their child-friendly environment offers a range of rooms from couples only to large family suites. Most rooms are in the main building of this charming Jacobean Manor House, looking out onto the gardens.
