The Vineyard at Stockross has the kind of luxurious, boutique vibe where nothing is prosaic and it’s all about the individual … making it entirely fitting that Parisian brand Darphin created their Aromatic Age-Defier Facial just for them … Spa Manager Kirsty Hughes explains what makes it so special.
What does the facial involve?
The treatment is one hour and forty minutes long; it starts with a welcome ritual that’s unique to Darphin – using a hot towel on your feet and targeting pressure points as well as a deep tissue back massage. Then we move on to the facial – there are two different facial massage techniques to choose from – a lifting and firming option and a Phyto-drainage variation. For that extra bit of luxury the treatment also includes a head massage.
Why does it work?
It’s a combination of the products and the massage techniques which are unique to Darphin. Darphin produces a prescription range that’s designed to be used with advice from a professional therapist – I am really picky about my products and I have not found anything that comes close to them. At the same time, the lift and firm massage technique lifts the facial contours and gives a real boost against gravity; the Phyto-drainage massage is a lighter option that releases toxins and is wonderful for reducing puffiness around the eyes.
Is there anything you do to enhance the treatment?
All the treatment rooms have candles and low lighting, and the treatment beds are heated so we can adjust the temperature for the guest, which is great because sometimes when you relax a lot your body temperature drops which isn’t particularly comfortable!
Is there anything you recommend guests do before the treatment?
We recommend that men close shave before having the facial because it helps get the products onto the skin. Also, a lot of women get worried about products getting in their hair if they are having the facial before going out for lunch or dinner – to really get the full results you don’t want to be worrying about things like that and it’s a shame for the therapist to have to avoid the hairline – so try to book it when you haven’t got any plans immediately after the treatment!
What about afterwards?
Always drink plenty of water because of the Phyto-drainage – it just helps to flush everything out. Ideally it’s best to avoid putting make-up on for a couple of hours or even better to leave it off for the rest of the day because you have opened up all the pores and you don’t want to go clogging them up, plus you will have to cleanse and take all the beneficial products off – it’s best to let them work on the skin – that’s why the hotel environment works so well!
Who’s it for?
Although it’s an age-defier facial, it’s actually good for everyone because we can change the products to target individual concerns such as sensitive skin. It’s good for anyone concerned with ageing or simply if you are getting skin blemishes and don’t know why – coming along for a facial like this means that we can look at the problem and give some professional advice.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t have the treatment?
We would have to adapt it for pregnant women because of the massage element, but all our therapists are trained in pregnancy massage – we would also have to change some of the oils. If you have had a serious illness – again, it should be ok because it’s a facial predominantly, but always check with a doctor because it means it’s less hassle for you and just puts your mind at rest. The only thing I would say is that if you have had Botox, fillers or laser treatment on your face then leave it a while and check with the person who did the procedure because the massage can be quite intense.
