“I never travel without my diary. One should always have something sensational to read on a train” … trill the immortal words of Oscar Wilde’s amusing, if somewhat fearsome husband hunter Gwendolyn in The Importance of Being Earnest.
Nonetheless, both she and Mr Wilde have a point – there is something about reading diaries that seems to be enduringly interesting – The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ and Bridget Jones’s Diary at one end of the spectrum and the Diary of Anne Frank at the other are testament to the fact that whatever the genre – truth or fiction, we are a nosy bunch and we like to know what’s going on in someone else’s world – or in the case of Gwendolyn, to congratulate ourselves on the immeasurable intrigue of our own prose.
Of course, the other reason we like to read diaries is because it gives us an insight into another person – it makes us feel as though we know them … still, there is something in Mr Wilde’s assertion, and taking a leaf out of his book there is neither any story quite like your own and no time like a holiday to write it down. Rather than encouraging us all to go off on an unmitigated naval-gazing diatribe however (as not all of us are wordsmiths of Wildean capabilities), a little guidance has been gratefully afforded in the beautifully indulgent format of the From You To Me journals. The books range from the traditional Bump to Birthday Pregnancy and First Year Journal, to the more innovative Dear Future Me, Dear Dad, Dear Grandma and so forth – you get the idea.
So taken are we with this notion, that we are joining literary forces with From You To Me and are giving customers a diary of their choice from the the Journals of a Lifetime range until 23rd April when booking an overseas break, as well as a 10% discount on further purchases with From You To Me when quoting SPABREAKS01 during that time.
Apparently everyone has a book in them – not sure who said that, but even so, this summer is your chance to find out … we’ll get the ball rolling:
The holidays – we still like holidays – can’t you tell?
How have you improved this last year and how did you do it?
We have flawless skin and perfect nails – we take our spa-ing very seriously.
What kind of material possessions would you like to have and by when?
Leighton Denny nail varnish in Just Perfect (pink) – in time for summer! … We tried it at the National Wedding Fair and LOVED it; Guylian chocolates – generally; a box of VOYA detox tea (for after the chocolates); and anything from Temple Spa – good enough to eat, better to simply slather onto your face.
